About 10 years ago, a friend from Mexico City bought us a bottle of his favorite Tequila in a sliver-and-black box about 5"x5"x9". I believe it's either not sold or hard to find in the US.

This friend recently moved abroad which I'll be visiting this summer. It would be great if I could buy that same brand of Tequila as a gift.

Do you know which one I'm talking about?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, can you recommend a brand of Tequila that a Mexico City native would like to receive as a gift?

Not patron for sure since you can't even find it in Mexico...

Depends on how much you want to spend
Casa Noble Crystal is like 400 pesos
Don Julio is about 300 pesos
Casa Noble Reposado is like 550 pesos
Seleccion Suprema is about 2500 pesos
Casa Noble Anejo about 1000 pesos
Real don Julio is about 3000 pesos

Any of these I would love to revive...

It sounds like Don Julio Plata (this is o.k.).
if you want to impress a chilango, person from Mexico City get them a bottle of Patron añejo, Don Julio añejo.
Real quality tequila must say 100% blue agave.
well aged is the best (añejo).
medium aged is good as well (reposado).
Good luck

I'm trying to figure out which bottle you're talking about. Might be called 7 Leguas?

If you don't mind spending the bucks, get him a bottle of Don Julio 1942. It's about $120.00 but I guarantee you it's one of the best tequilas you've ever had. ;)
