Vaseline and vitamin E oil don't work. I can't afford an eye cream.

The skin under my eyes is very dry and I have premature wrinkles. I am sixteen.
Would olive oil work to moisturize? Or is there another oil that would be better?

Jojoba oil is a good choice, probably better than olive oil. It's chemically most similar to sebum, the natural oil produced in your skin. But you can also use olive or grapeseed oil. Just be sure not to put your fingers inside the bottle, because it will get bacteria in it. If you can afford it, get some from the natural health/beauty aisle at a local supermarket. That usually comes in a bottle that will let you squeeze out a few drops at a time, keeping the oil clean and keeping you from wasting it. I reiterate that I feel jojoba is the best choice, especially if you're acne-prone, but if it's more expensive, try the olive or grapeseed oil.

You can also just use a regular face cream by your eyes. Eye creams are usually just richer versions of a regular face cream, formulated to be safe to use by your eyes. (Some do also have special ingredients to reduce circles or puffiness.) But most face creams are safe to use by your eyes anyway. Try looking at the drugstore brands to find something to use. I think there are probably some that would even be cheaper than buying olive oil, which is actually fairly pricey.

This company http://www.dhccare.com/DHC/ sells olive oil to use as moisturizer, so you can see it *is* an accepted moisturizer. You can also try requesting a catalog from them---I know they used to include free tiny samples of soap, olive oil, and something else stuck on a page of the catalog. I used one small square packet of olive oil on my eyes for over a week, and it seemed very nice. (It turned out I shouldn't have done this, I had a skin condition that looked like dry skin but was actually caused by overproduction of oil, so I shouldn't have been moisturizing! If your skin is flaky, you should see a doctor.) So olive oil can work. But jojoba is better, and that's why tons of skincare junkies swear by it. I use jojoba myself now.

By the way, don't try the Vaseline again. It's not good to get it in your eyes, and it won't moisturize your skin. People put it on *over* moisturizer on parts of their body like feet or elbows, to seal in that moisturizer, because it creates a barrier on your skin. It will also seal in natural moisture already in your skin. But just putting petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on under your eyes, where you don't even have oil glands anyway, isn't going to do anything. It's not absorbed by skin at all. It only seals in moisture, which isn't going to happen if your underye skin is already dry.

Good luck in finding an eye moisturizer!

Olive Oil For Eyes

Contrary to what some believe, oil is oil. Sure, you could go out and pay big bucks for some "designer" application, but it won't do any better job than whatever non-poisionous oil you choose. Olive oil has been used since ancient Roman times to moisturize the skin. It will do just as good a job as anything.

I am 51 and have been using olive oil on my skin all my life and I am often told that I have the skin of a 20 year old. Do what you like, but the olive oil application will work fine.

16! Yikes. If you have seriously dry skin you should see your doctor and get some cream. Olive oil is not the best choice. If your skin at 16 is so dry that you are getting wrinkles you could have a problem with your sebaceous glands-maybe hormonal, maybe hereditary-but imagine what 26 and 36 will look like. Take care of the problem now.

Olive oil is the worst thing you can use.. it will make your eyes all puffy, and will do nothing for any wrinkles.. I can't believe you have really wrinkly skin anyway. And as for olive oil not clogging pores? Actually, smartie, it will make your skin sticky, and dirt and dust will stick to your face, and clog your pores... so learn some manners, and learn the facts about skin care.. idiot.

I agree with the jojoba oil suggestions. Another oil you might want to try is called Camelia Oil. Its one of the old beauty secrets of the Geisha in Japan. It can be used for you hair, nails, scalp etc, but is rich in plant collagen so it'll improve elasticity and give your skin a high level of hydration. I've been adding a drop to my moisturizer at night and my dry patches have smoothed out and dissapeared. You can order it online or find it at health food shops and it isn't expensive. Good luck!

olive oil is a great firming tool that my wife uses to avoid getting stretch marks. She is pregnant and seems to be growing pretty quick, but it definitely works...she has only but a few, and that is with 1-2 applications per day.

Also consider changing soaps. I don't know if this will help in your case, but glycerine soaps, olive-oil based soaps, and moisturizing soaps (a good one is Cetaphil - it's very mild, so much so that we've used it on our kids when they were babies and getting dry skin) help keep your skin from getting so dry in general.
