MY DOG IS LOVED PLAYED WITH HOUSE BROKEN TRAINED TO DO TRICK SHE WAS VERY EASY TO TRAIN HAS ALWAY LOVED HER CRATE UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO SHE HATES BEING LEFT ALONG .SHE STARTS DROWLING AND SCRATCHING THE PILLOW IN HER CRATE WHEN I LOCK HER CRATE TO GO OUT FOR A LITTLE WHILE. I DONT WORK SO IM HOME MOST OF THE TIME . BUT I HATE TO GO OUT FOR 30 MIN AND FIND HER LOOKING LIKE A WET RAT. IT IS NOT HOT IN THE HOUSE SO THATS NOT WHY SHE IS DROWLING. I HAVE NO WAY OF BLOCKING OF A SECTION OF THE ROOM THE ROOM HAS NO WALLS I CAN ONLY LOCK HER IN THE BATHROOM BUT I FEEL THAT WOULD BE MEAN BECAUSE SHE ISNT USED TO THAT ROOM.DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY SUGESTIONS HOW I CAN CALM HER DOWN AND GET HER USED TO HER CRATE AGAIN.I DONT FEEL CONFORTABLE LEAVING HER LOSE I'M AFRAID SHE COULD CLIMB ONTO THE COUCH AND GET HURT COMING DOWN OR EVEN GETTING UNDER IT AND GETTING STUCK, SHE HAS NEVER CHEWED BUT I WOULDNT WANT HER CHEWING A WIRE BEHIND FURNI-
TURE.ONCE AGAIN THE VET RECOMMENED THAT SHE SHOULD BE CRATED

Why would a vet recommend small breeds be crated?
What small breed do you have? Chihuahua, Maltese, Yorkie, etc.
I have 8 Chihuahuas and my 3 seven yr olds prefer crates while 4 ranging in ages of 15, 11, 1 1/2, 10 mos prefer to be free but limited to my bedroom where all of the dog stuff is kept and I have a 7 wk old that prefer to stay in a clothes basket on her blankie bed. I give all of them chew toys and play toys and have never experienced any electrical cord chewing, shoe damage or any destruction.
Has she really ever given you a reason to think that she is destructive? or is the vet giving her a bad rap?
I would at least adjust the area hide the cords with tape or cord covers- essentially babyproof your house for your dog baby. Give her a chance and see what happens. You will never know unless you try. Watch for carpet-chewing at the doorways, wall scratching at doorway, etc. I would set up a camera and record the area she is in during this time if possible and see what she does while you are gone.
Good luck
I would still consider finding a new vet- shame on your vet for stereotyping small breeds.

something must have casued her to not like the crate... if you want to keep her in it for her safety then I would say start back at the basics....crate her while you are home ..just for a few minutes at a time ,,,she may associate her carte with being left alone,,,you didn't say how old she was.........
if you want to try letting her stay out while you are gone....do that in small lapses of time to ..jusy go out / come back in two minutes ...several times a day to see what she gets into.....she likley will just raom abit and then sleep....

HERE IS MY OPINION : Get rid of the Vet. I have two dogs (Maltese) and they have NEVER been caged and never will be. WHY would your Vet tell you that?!

If your pup is that upset, I would get rid of the crate......You are hurting her by locking her up. You are also upsetting yourself. If you can't enjoy your dog as a member of the family, don't have one. Don't hurt your baby.........
