as described in the story of Noah's Ark could have happened?
I ask because it is impossible for a world wide flood to have taken place the way it is described in the Bible. Even if it did rain for 40 days straight, the entire world would NOT flood. Even if it rained for 1,000 days straight over the entire Earth, the entire world would not flood. Even if it rained for 1,000 days straight, and ever single glacier and chunk of ice in the polar ice caps melted, there would STILL not be enough water to cover the Earth. The reason for this is because of HOW rain forms. Rain does not simply magically come from the sky (as the people who wrote the Bible figured). Rainwater is water that is drawn up from oceans, lakes, rivers, etc. So no matter how much it rained, the water that would be falling would simply be water that was being drawn up into the clouds from the Earth, meaning that rainwater would NOT be increasing the amount of water on Earth.

So how is this story possible?

Furthermore,
Noah supposedly (according to the Bible) had one week to load all of the animals of the Earth onto his ark. Biologists and zoologists currently estimate that there are roughly 30 million species on this planet. Now without getting into how Noah was able to supposedly build ONE boat out of WOOD large enough to hold them all, and without getting into how he was able to make this one boat seaworthy, or how he was able to manage to collect all of these species (all of which are impossible), perhaps you can tell me how he was able to load onto his boat:
60,000,000 animals in one week
8,571,428 animals per day
357,142 animals per hour
5,952 animals per minute
99 animals per second
Now surely some of you will simply write “God can do anything”. But nowhere in the Bible does it say that God had a hand in any of Noah’s work. So since you believe in a LITERAL interpretation of the Bible, this is not a valid answer.

For all of you that have said "Anything is possible with God", you get a thumbs down for not reading the entire question all of the way through.

Its the same as the creation myth and the tower of babel, its fiction. Scientific evidence refutes noahs flood, people only believe it because its in a book they falsely believe to be true.

Edit: The millions of different species Noah had to fit makes it obvious to anyone with half a brain the story is false.

Uh, first of all, you do realize that a miracle, by definition, has no logical explanation. That's kind of the whole point. It would be an act of nature, not an act of God, if it could be all explained by logic or physics.

Having noted that, I will also note that every culture around the world (including the Chinese and the ancient Maya) has a similar global flood myth (see first link, below). If you don't believe in a literal global flood, then you have to come up with a logical explanation for that.

Anyway, in answer to your question, if you want to see an attempt to explain the global flood logically (which I personally think is a little misguided), try the article at the second link below. It is too long to cut & paste here.

well Nicolas
the bible tells us that not only did it rain for 40 days and 40 nights, the fountains of the deep burst open. Surely you've heard of underground water resevoirs, some of which are thousands of feet underground.
Here's a thought - the scientists of the time didn't even know there were underground reservoirs until recent history. But yet the bible published this info thousands of years ago.
You've heard of pangaea? In theory, if the continents were somewhat closer together, the Atlantic ocean wouldn't have been nearly as big and the Atlantic trench probably wouldn't have been there - that's alot of water to displace.

Animals:
There may be an estimated 30 million species now, but how big are they? The vast majority are insects, microbes and in the sea, but aside from that, Noah wouldn't have needed every breed of dog for example. He would have only needed a pair of the dog kind... probably a dog much like a wolf. Once liberated after the flood, these dogs over the generations could have conceivably produced genetic variences and produced a dog, wolf, fox, coyote etc.

Time:
Noah had 120 years to build the ark and get those animals in. That's alot of time don't you think?

I am aware that your question is somewhat of a bait, however I think that you would have to agree that to be truly open minded, you would have to at least CONSIDER the scientific possibility that these things could have happened.
In 1981, Mt. St. Helen's erupted. Things happened at that eruption that shed alot of light on several theories... not the least of which was huge canyons being formed in less than a few hours time. Trees ripped up from a hillside and being tossed into Spriit lake, only to become waterlogged and sink root ball first into the bottom of the lake, and have sediment settle around them as if they had been planted there.

Here's a few questions:
Why are there fossilized trees that seem to be growing up through many thousands of years of geologic sedimentary rock in France?
Why are there fossilized clams on TOP of Mt. Everest?
Why is there a fossilized baleen whale standing on it's end in many many layers of sediment (did it die and then stand there for millions of years while the sediment settled around it and fossilized it?)
Why has there been fresh T-rex blood and sinew found at a dig only a couple of years ago?
If the sun is shinking at a certain rate, doesn't it follow that it would have been MUCH LARGER only a couple of million years ago? How did life on earth survive then? As it stands, at this moment the earth is the perfect distance from the sun to sustain life.
If the moon is drifting away from earth, wouldn't it follow that it was MUCH CLOSER only a couple million years ago? Wouldn't the tides have been HUGE if that were so?
If our galaxy is the result of an ancient big bang, wouldn't it follow by the laws of physics that everything would be spinning the same direction?
They aren't.

I'm not saying either theory is right or wrong. What I am saying is that for every explaination of evolutionary theory that there is, there's also an equal explaination for the theory of a young earth - or creation. They are certainly both theories, and to say anything otherwise (like: there's tons of proof, microevolution is proof, lots of transitional fossils have been found, read a text book and open your brain, Christians are just ignorant of the truth etc etc etc) doesn't make it so.

If you are truly interested, visit some of the websites I've cited here. All creationists or proponents for a young earth are asking for is fairness. Let's work together to figure this thing out. If young earth evidences are constantly being black balled from mainstream secular science publications and secular scientists continue to ignore evidences that clearly question their ideas, then is that true science? Is that being open minded?
Thanks for reading

If you read the whole story it clearly says that the fountains of the deep were released....it wasn't just the rain. Who said it had to be rain as we understand the cycle today? God could have created "rain" out of nothing at all without using the cycle we understand. You combine torrents and sheets of hurricane like rain fall with underground water being released onto the surface of the earth everywhere (not just one location) and of course it is possible. Also Noah did not go and collect the animals, God brought the animals to him of all the ones that He designated were to survive. How do we know how many that was? I believe God and His Word over our limited understanding. The human brain is the size of an amoeba compared to Almighty God - HE can do anything whether we understand it or not. by the way - I did read the question all the way through and I still say God can do anything. The dimensions of the Ark were orchestrated by God and though it was physically built with real wood by a real Noah and his sons, God held it together by the Word of His power and by His will it survived the flood and came to rest in God's time on the Mountains just as the Word says.

So than what's the big deal about global warming? Who cares?

I don't know if it was over the entire earth, though. It could have been the entire earth that Noah saw.

Although, if it was literal, well, our planet was formed with the materials in outer space so to speak. The waters could have been used in other creations. Naturally I'm just speculating here. Maybe I should take a raincheck :-)

I love your thought out question. The Bible says the firmament opened and water burst forth from the ground. Don't think of what you have seen already. You can;t imagine how many tons of water could the Lord have allow to cover the whole Earth. If He wanted to He could have flood the whole place in a minute. You don't want to box God in your little box. He is all-powerful. He said there is nothing impossible for Him. I believe in Him with all my heart unto salvation in Christ to Heaven.

Examine your god and small he is.
One thing He can't do is allow a unrepentant sinner into Heaven without being washed by the Blood of Jesus.

logically it couldn't, which you already proved. Also the Earth i don't think was what it is now, the land split since then. A thing scientifically called a Tsunami came flooded the land back then. Vietnam also experiences massive rainfalls for days at a time. days weren't calculated like they are now, so 40 days or however long it rained, no one knows, came faster than 40 days calculated now. I think Noah, who built ships for a living, placed HIS animals on his boat so he could save his farm.

If all the ice melted and a large majority of the water held in the atmosphere fell its is possible. The interesting thing is that non middle east people have the same myth/record.

Edit: just wondering at the thought and work to dispprove it..thats so pointless if there is no God how can Crristians hurt you so why would you need to attck? We want your salvation what are lookng to do for us?

Because you have the Lord of Isreal..He is an awsome God who holds us in is His palm and the universe declares his glory and this a box you want to put him in and define????. His ways are not our ways His thoughts are not our thoughts. they are much higher. If you could understand my God he would not be much of one..that would be the best answer is He is beyond our full understanding but if we need to know he will tell us and if we have the spirit in our lives we know the one who knows..but you know this is why one day all knees will be bent and he will be acknowledged as the r God. Go look at the sky and know our creator has this all held together by His power the unknown glue in every atom! We will ask Him together when we are in his pressence I hope you decide to be there! :)

Obviously the writer was writing about the "whole world" as known to him and people of his day. Why would he write about a flood in areas other than the known world of the time, in areas whose very existence were not even suspected?
