I don't think sensitivity of skin matters as much as pain threshold. My skin is sensitive, I've gotten rashes from different perfumes and lotions, but my tattoo healed beautifully.
My opinion on tattoos is: If all these other people can get them and deal with the pain, so can I! It all depends on how bad you want one.
My tattoo on my ankle didn't hurt too much, it was more annoying. Plus I was a little freaked out because I was convinced it would make me pass out, like you hear stories about. But I didn't even get woozy.
For your first tattoo, stay small, see how you react. Don't go in for a huge back piece the first time around lol.
And Good Luck! You CAN do it!

I second on the tolerance vs sensitive skin. Redheads are supposed to be sensitive, but I've been ok with mine. Blair has a great collection & he's suffering from ink withdrawal.

It will hurt, but it's not that big of a deal. I like the way my artist put it - either you've had something this painful before, or it's about time.

Not painful, depending how you feel about needles. I have sensitive skin and 2 tattoos and they didn't hurt.

i'll be honest, sensitive skin or not it kills! but not as much as childbirth i believe! the pain varies depending on where you get it.
i got an ex boyfriends name at the bottom of my back, big mistake, even though it was only 3 letters! it really hurt but not as much as getting it covered did!
but to be honest the outline hurts but the colouring in didnt and people get more and more so it is a bearable pain i suppose and as soon as its done it totally stops hurting.
i'd say go for it and just take a painkiller before you go, good luck!

I think it really depends on how you can handle pain. May be you won't even feel it as bad afterwards like other people would... bottom line, it varies from one person to another. Hope you go for it and enjoy the piece of art that will be sealed in your body!

I don't understand where the hype over tattoo pain came from or why it exists today. I started falling asleep on my tats and if it wasnt for having people standing around over me and stuff to talk to I would have been asleep during it.

shake the fear dude...

It shouldn't be painful but that depends on where you're getting it. Ask for a thicker needle, it doesn't hurt at all.

It BURNS rather than hurts. U get used to it. If it's closer to the bone it tends to burn more cos there is not as much tissue there. Good Luck.

-----Do *not* get a tattoo. If you get a tattoo, you will regret it later on. It is extremely difficult or impossible to remove them; what you want and like *will* change over time. ---Jim
