i suffer from mouth ulcers alot but luckily I'm a dental assistant so i always have some1 to turn to for quick advice, and there advice to me is rinse with warm salt water, not to hot tho because the ulcer will get irritated and will stay for longer, or to rinse out with a mouth wash called corsodyl, this is a good mouth wash but it can stain the teeth, and your not to use 10
b4 or after brushing teeth. my best bid is to go for the mouth wash, like i say its a good mouth was but you would more then likely have to book yourself in for a scale n polish with your hygienist after this :)

Depending on the cause of the ulcer, hot salt water rinses may or may not work. Salt water rinses only work on cuts, wounds, etc in the mouth. But if the ulcer is from a cold sore or herpes simplex, then the rinses won't work, you will need a prescription to take care of it. If your pain is tolerable, you can grin and bear it and let the ulcer run its course in a matter of 2-3 weeks time.

I suffer from apthous ulcers (canker sores/mouth ulcers) and although a medical doctor told me to use gentian violet, I accidentally stained my teeth purple by following her advice. Gentian violet is used in infants with thrush infections (they have NO teeth). I had to have a professional stain removal.
There is a new product for apthous ulcers in the US made by EPIEN Medical called HybenX (northernresearch.com). I used HybenX simultaneously with an IM Decadron injection administered in a dental office.
I also use Tantum rinse and viscous Xylocaine to treat the stinging/burning.

Try drying the area first with a tissue, then applying sugar, do this every hour or so, for two days.....don't laugh I know it works. I told a woman doctor in the ladies room at a Charity Ball, and two years later she came up to me and said, "I remember you, you told me how to heal the mouth ulcer I had, and it really worked"...so please try it.

They are viral; there is no cure. You have to let them run their course. Call your doctor and ask him/her to prescribe "MAGIC MOUTHWASH". It will help the discomfort. They will usually heal in about 7 days.

I hope you feel better soon. I know they are painful. Also, you can avoid salty foods.
