The route above is valid, but really ugly.
A more interesting and scenic, but EASY route is to take 137 westbound, merge onto 41 southbound all the way to 101 southbound and cruise it all the way to Santa Barbara.
W137 --> S41 --> S101
If you want to save a little bit of drive time, or you happen to like wine, take 99 south to 46 west, then take 101 south. The 46 crosses the 101 at Paso Robles. I'd recommend to pit stop at some wineries before heading down to SB.
S99 --> W46 --> hit some wineries --> S101 (and then hit more wineries)
