So I have to take the bus a few miles, and walk the rest of the way about 10 blocks or so. I get off work at 10:30, and I'm going to be walking home around 11. I don't live in the best area....

What are some safety tips that I could use or remember??

I'm serious, please no mean answers....

Hopefully I can get a ride home!!!

You should go through well lit areas and places with lots of people. If thats not an option for you I suggest pepper spray and there is now personal use tazers. The pepper spray works, but the tazer is best if you can afford it. The ones im talking about are new on the market and you can shot someone from up to 15 feet away. there are 2 probes that shoot out and hit someone just like police use but the shock last 20 seconds so you can run away. but it is all about what you feel comfortable using. Some model tazers can be replaced for free if used in the right reasons by the manuf.

I understand dear. I had a few tricks.

I lived in a nice neighbourhood in a big city but, to get to it you had to walk 10 blocks through a nasty area for prostitution. I always

Usually I had a big old english sheep dog with me. Lucy saved me a lot of hassle but not enough.

My main rule was NO EYE CONTACT with any of them. Ever. Unless I had to get very forceful about an issue. With these guys any such contact was like beggng for unwanted attention. I had big dark sunglasses which I wore a great deal of the time. No one could see where my eyes went.

I made sure I was dressed modestly. No bare shoulders or arms, short skirts. I ignored any comments, I gave nothing back. Sometimes cars rode alongside me. If I felt threatened I had some nice rocks in my pocket and I was a pretty good aim. I made sure they saw what I had in my hand and what I intended to do with it. The forehead was always a good target.

I also carried my dog's heavy chain leash. It had a lovely swing to it yet fell into such a nice little lump in my pocket. Two men had to have stitches across the cheekbones for not heeding me.

Wear sensible shoes and walk with a strong stride and stay in the light. Avoid bushes and trees large enough to hide someone.

I hope you get a ride too. Good luck.

Always have your key in hand by the time you reach your door

Oh and this is a big one. DON"T BE ON YOUR CELL OR HOOKED UP TO MUSIC SO YOU ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS..

Muggers look for people who are distracted or who look like they have no self-confidence. Walk with confidence and self-assurance. Keep your keys in hand with the longest key secured/protruding between your fingers to use as a weapon.
If someone does hassle you get your back to a wall if you can
and go for their eyes. The reason I say get your back to a wall is it makes it harder for someone/ a group to surround/circle you. But above all, don't panic. Think of something/someone you really hate and take that out on your attacker.

Walk with a purpose, don't look people in the eye. Don't look scared or like a victim.

Maybe keep your keys in your hand (sticking out of your fingers) just in case.

I like girls in jeans. It creates them look more home town like and it generally does not look like they are trying too hard but if you're looking to get this guys attention, this may well not be what you would like

I do enjoy putting on long skirts once in a while. They may be actually more comfortable than Jeans and also much less hot to wear.

Wear a trench coat and beanie. Look scary or homeless, everyone will ignore you.
