American Sign Language is NOT universal. Language is based upon culture, therefore having a universal sign language would be impossible.
The same as there being a worldwide universal spoken language. Can't really be done..

No, the most common though is the one used in America. The French also have there own sign language although some of the signing is similar just as it is with verbal language. Also the sign language used in America can also use two hands it's not just BSL. Which i wasn't aware of the fact the British had thier own due to the fact i have family and family friends who are deaf and know a lot there is to know about sign language. I'm always sure you could type it in though and see what shows up. But i have no doubt the British probably do have thier own as well.

There are different types of sign language. Some sign for letters but others sign for words. American Sign Language (which signs for words) is the most common sign language and is used all over the world, regardless of what language is spoken there.

No. There are many different forms of sign language. American Sign Language and British Sign Language, for example, are very different - BSL has a two-handed alphabet, ASL one-handed, for example.
Some Asian sign languages have the middle finger extended as one handshape - to Americans, it looks like they're flipping people off.

If the signs used by the french, Chinese and American are similar, can they all communicate without any problem?
