Sand and water table activity?

I need a sand and water table activity for preschoolers on Home Safety. I'm drawing a blank. It can be as easy as putting something in the sand and water table for them to explore with (ie, plastic toy dinosaurs).

You could use the little fire people and police and ems people, (like the little green army men: wal-mart $2) & plastic fire people hats to make "sand castles"

For the water side, the police/fire set comes with boats.

Make ladders out of popcicle sticks.

Jump ropes make great pretend fire hoses.

Our classroom currently has a water table, and they love it. I would get anything that they can use to pour. Plastic cups, pitchers etc...Even something as simple as sponges, so that they can squeeze them, thereby using their fine motor skills. We also put a foamy/spongy ring toss in the water table. It stays afloat as they try to toss the ring. Just to warn ya, the sand table can get very messy.(You will be sweeping alot). Don't limit yourself though, you can stock up on boxes of pasta of all different shapes, and fill the table with that alone. Hope this helps.

My preschoolers really loved it when i put those clear little rocks (like for fish tanks) in the water table. I also bought this magnetic fishing pole w/ fish and we made it into a fishing game. It isn't necessarily home safety... but they really enjoyed it.

why don't you add a family of little people to the area. they can use them to act out home safety things - the children must listen to mommy and daddy. sd

maybe use premade cards with the right/wrong way to use household items (scissors, knives, fire, cooking items, candles)

maybe match items using same as above with a fishing pole to locate and match them
