There must be an issue with cross-collection or as Bostonian said, extra review.

Has your filing status changed?
Added or Dropped a Dependent?

You should receive a letter from the IRS asking you for further info.
If it is cross-collection: child support, student loans, taxes, or old preparation fees you can find out by calling 1–800–304–3107

I'm surprised it said March 21 as a deposit date because the IRS only does direct deposits on Fridays-not Wednesdays. I'm wondering if it was that message that says that they are processing your return and if they find no errors then you should expect your refund by March 21? If you are gettting a direct deposit, on the IRS Where's My Refund page it will give you a specific date and it will always be on a Friday.

Here's the IRS efile direct deposit chart so you can see the deposit dates.

April 23rd is not on there either as a deposit date so I think most likely your deposit will be April 20 since that is the closest date to that estimated time. I think as the time gets closer to your actual refund, then you will get an exact direct deposit date...they are probably reviewing your return and it's taking longer than they originally thought it would to process it.

The date is just an estimate. It is not guaranteed. With that much of a shift, it's likely that your return is receiving additional review. Nothing that you can do about it. Sorry.

The dates usually are meant as an estimate, not a promise.
