How thoughtful of you! I suggest you stay away from the knick-knacks with "World's Greatest Teacher!" I have been teaching for over 12 years and have tons of things like that! I would also avoid the 3 “C’s” (cookies, candy, candles), unless your child makes something at home to place these in.
Some of my favorite gifts are those that the children make themselves, especially homemade cards! I once had a child paint a tree on a small piece of canvass then use his thumbprints as the leaves. I loved it! I also enjoy getting gift certificates. I get a lot from places like Starbucks, so stay away from that. I have gotten gift certificates from book stores, nail salons, clothing stores, and restaurants. Since I am an avid reader and collect children's books I love the ones from the book stores! One year, I got a gift card that I was able to use at any store in our local mall. Many malls are doing this now. It was great because I had tons of different stores to choose from! Whatever you get for her have your child wrap it and give it to her personally. Teachers love this! Hope this helps!

As a childcarer, the best gift I received was a giftbox covered in photos of two of the children I cared for. It was filled with chocolates too. Whatever you give her, make sure you include something from your child (handmade card or picture). It's great to have something personal to remember the kids by.

She is young and will think anything is sweet. You could have your little one make her a card and attach it to a special stuffed bear or something! Candles are nice and so are books. Maybe you could find a cute book for teachers (poems, out of the mouths of babes, etc.) then have your little one write/draw on the inside.

i once bought a teacher a plague at a christian store that said the world needs more teachers like her and went on to say thanks for their kindness, she wrote me a thank you note saying it meant so much, it was the best gift she ever received, even if you are not a christian , most christian stores have a large section of thoughtful nondenominational gifts for teachers

I was a teacher for many years so let me say that my favorite gifts were gc's from local school supply stores. I loved to have fun things in my room for the kids (and schools usually supply so little) and it can get really expensive. Hope that helps!

There are a lot of 'favorite teacher' items -- try orientaltrading.com. Get her a teacher mug or something. BUT make sure you and your son 'make' a heartfelt thank you and goodbye card -- have him sign it (even if it is a 'scribble', you can print his name under it).
