For long hair, try not to blow dry it with hot air much. It causes damage - split ends, dry hair, etc. Shampoo you can use what you are used to but you should remember to use conditioner every time you wash your hair. If you are going to grow it out long, consider also getting a leave in treatment to do once a week. With long hair, you need to keep it healthy. One really icky but effective way to keep your hair smooth and maintain shine is to rub an egg yolk into your hair, leave it in for a few minutes like a conditioner, and then rinse it all out and use shampoo. You don't need to do it everyday, once or twice a week at the most is enough. The only problem is, if you don't rinse it out completely and shampoo your hair afterwards, sometimes, there is an egg smell that I really don't like. Personally, for long hair on guys, I don't like to have too many layers, something that is more smooth and slick is more my taste. Then, you can tie it back with a rubber band or even use a unisex head band. Cute~

Use conditioner, it helps prevent split ends. If you want, get a shampoo/conditioner set that gives you healthy hair (I've found that a moisturizing shampoo helps my hair). Get it trimmed every six weeks (this also encourages the growth process, along with giving you healthy hair).
If you REALLY want healthy hair, then go to a whole foods store or GNC and get a hair/nails vitamin (ask at the counter for it, they'll be able to help you). Eat more protein, as well.
About the layers, when you get your hair trimmed, ask about it, but don't overdo it. Layers could make your hair look a bit too feminine.
Mainly, don't do anything too abrasive to your hair. Ask your girlfriend what she does to keep her hair nice and for any tips.
Hope this helps!

Trimming your hair keeps it healthy. For shampoo and conditioner? My hair is of medium length and it's layered, and I use Garnier Fructis. There's a lot of different kinds though, and a lot of shampoos and conditioners are really good. But I guess it all pretty much depends on how thick/thin your hair is, whether its wavy or straight. You could probably ask your girlfriend for more help on that one!
Hope I've been to some use. Good luck!

One mistake people with long hair make is combing or brushing from the top down. This is bad because it breaks your hair. Instead, from the bottom brush a little at a time until you are able to brush from the top.
Trims are important to keep split or dead ends at bay. Any mild shampoo is fine, and if you don't need conditioner, don't use it.
Best of luck to you.

Layers is tooooo much my friend. No offense but that look is so incredibly gay on a boy, i would think you have a bf and not a gf. (no offense to the gay community). I agree with the 1st answer. I can't really tell you what shampoo or conditioner to use because every hair is different, something that's good for me might not be for you. You should go to a unisex salon and ask what would be good for you hair. But please man no layers

Hotness! Yea, I dunno about layers, that's kinda fruity. But sense you care not about the implecations made by society, I would say go for it! I think as long as you keep your hair trimmed and rid of split-ends, and condition it, it will be fine. I personally don't think that one shampoo/conditioner is superior over another - I have tried a lot of different types - so I usually just opt for "white rain" because it is inexpensive and it is not tested on animals :)

I have a friend who has hair just like you described. Personally, I think he looked better without the layers. I think it added a little too much of a feminine look. This is ultimately up to you. If you think you might like it, then do it. If not and you are only doing it for your girlfriend, don't you think she'd understand if you didn't want to do it? Well good luck!!

Guys like lengthy hair!! It's medical truth! In cavemen days guys selected ladies who had lengthy hair considering that they felt the girl could be larger moms. Anthropologically speakme that is actual considering that the infants could have the additional safeguard of the mummy's hair to maintain onto once they had been going for walks from sabertooth tigers, or anything they had been going for walks from. Makes feel. Grow your hair!!

sometimes when i get myhair trimmed they cut off more than i want them too, so i suggest getting a trim every 2 months and instead of telling them to just trim it, say i want a trim but idont want it to be noticable or that you want to keep the length. as for shampoo and conditioner it depends on your hair type, if your hair is dry id try redken all soft and if its oily or normal id use suave professionals bio-basics. good luck!

Layers is kinda gay. Sorry. I think your girlfriend is treating you like a ........ doll? Lol.
But, if you like the long hair, just wash it with conditioner, a good one. But personally, i hate guys with long hair like that. It sucks, from the back it looks like a dyke.
I think shes playing a practical joke on you, your just too dumb to realise it. Get a grip *****.
