In a minitri you can ride anything! If it's your first, just do it to see if you like it, don't even buy a bike. Borrow one or use what you've got. A mini is barely even a ride! Plus I've raced with people in sprint distances who ride cruisers and mountain bikes and my best friend did her first tri on a mountain bike and placed #2 in her age group so it goes to show that the bike isn't nearly as important as the rider.

Good luck!!!

Lisa R's husband is correct... it sounds like you're just doing this for fun, so no need to break the bank.

If you decide you like it and want to be competitive, there's plenty of good ways to spend thousands.

Also, the bikesdirect.com site is full of good deals, and they have a good service reputation.

My Husband says that any bike that you would be comfortable riding would be ok for this kind of race.
You don't necessarily need a high performance bike
