I had an extraction on the first of March and afterwards there was a half inch bump from the site of the extraction extending to my palate that was so painful I could only eat very soft foods or smoothies. I called the dentist and he said it was a deep bruise and to call if it did not go away by Monday (the 19th), but on the Sunday before it stopped hurting and I have been able to eat regular foods since then.
I do suggest you call you dentist as all situations can be different, but wanted to let you know what happened to me and not to worry, even if it is an infection, antibiotics can easily treat it. I hope this helps you.

It sounds like an abscess. I had one a few weeks ago and the dentist gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and also vicodin for the pain. Salt water rinses are good in the meantime if you can't get to your dentist right away. Keep taking the pain meds that you have at the moment (if you don't have a prescription, ibuprofen works well). Try not to chew on that side either. I hope you feel better soon! Dental pain is the worst.

I had the same thing happen to me. I ignored it hoping it would go away. It didn't. I ended up going back to the dentist and he told me that my mouth was infected.
It's very easy to get an infection after dental surgery. The mouth has a lot of bacteria. I would call your dentist ASAP because it can only get worse. They will probably put you on antibiotics if it is, in fact, infected.
Good luck

it is an infection. i had the same for my root canal treatment. if you just had your extraction, you should've been given antibiotics to fight the bacteria constantly passing & thriving in your mouth. extractions shouldn't be painful at all after they're done-- most of the time they're just swollen, or maybe you can feel pressure, but the pain should subside gradually every day til it goes away completely. i suggest you go to your dentist, have her check the severity of infection, and have a presciption filled out.

any extraction site that doesn't improve after 4 days should be checked again by the dentist or surgeon. Your 3rd day after oral surgery is the peak day of swelling and discomfort. After that it should get better.....
I work for an oral surgeon.

you only would desire to learn from journey in this one. each physician has his/her favorites, a marvelous type of forceps that look exceptionally much a similar have different numbers. (sixteen and 23, working example) What i might recommend, in this digital age, is which you image each and each tool and print out a image. Write the call of that unstrument on each and each photograph and learn them! What WE do is write the forcep quantity on the exterior of each sterilization pouch earlier it is going into the autoclave. Sanford Sharpie ink would not run interior the autoclave. place the pouches interior the drawer with the numbers seen. That way, as quickly as I say, "deliver me the 287 forcep, please," the assistant would not panic, even nevertheless she would possibly no longer comprehend what it incredibly is. The type of the forcep is often stamped someplace on the cope with, so which you will commence this on the instant. We do a similar with elevators, which I call by ability of "names" instead of numbers, like "small east-west elevators." as quickly as you get the names out of your physician, only save shifting the names to the hot pouch each and each time you employ the tool and you will no longer lose song of it.
