The American Cancer Society provides an informative page for patients who need financial assistance or insurance issues. No one needs to go without medical care. She should contact a medical social worker either through her cancer clinic or the local hospital. They should be able to direct her to local financial assistance.

There are also many hospitals that were built with public funding and are required under the Hill-Burton Fund to provide low cost or free medical care to any patient who needs it.

If she is still having trouble than she can contact CancerCare, which is a non-profit organization of medical social workers. They can counsel her online or over the telephone.

You can't legally deny treatment. And no one asks 50,000 up front to start treatment for cancer. Any public hospital is legally obligated to treat anyone with a life-threatening condition whether or not they have insurance. She will be put on a sliding-scale payment plan and the state will probably step in and cover many expenses.

Can she approach her employer? What about her community? These are good places to start. Also there ARE free clinics but she would have to qualify income wise. Contacting the American Cancer Society would probvably be a REALLY useful first step, they are very helpful. Organizing events and fundraisers in the community is a good idea as well. Churches, schools and businesses may be willing to help her out. You never know until you try!

Good luck and God bless!

She can apply for an emergency medical. No hospital will deny treatment for a cancer and there is the emergency medical for people with no insurance

You are lying. If she just doesn't have insurance, the doctor WILL set up a payment plan or she would have already been to the department of social services.

Sounds like you are just trying to get some free cash here.
