Syrup of Ipecac used to be available over the counter and was used in emergency situations, usually with accidental poisonings or overdoses.
If it's no longer available OTC, it's probably because of anorexic high school girls who use it as a dietary aide.

hummm, Ipecac syrup.........well it is easy enough to get...it doesn't require a script...
HOWEVER the only people i have ever know to use this product is parents who have had a child that has taken some form of poisons ....that was its original intent if i am not mistaken....
THE OTHERS I HAVE KNOWN TO USE THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN FOOD ADDICTS....
and i am not making an accusation...its just that i have had friends who have used this product and they have had very serious side effects from it....
1) you can permanently damage your teeth...
2) you can permanently damage your throat, stomach as well as other organs...
if you have been poisoned well get to the hospital don't try to doctor yourself...
and if you are desiring to have violent vomiting ....maybe it would be good to check that out???
if it is about food and eating issues....check out OA...it really can help....please take care...em

ipecac is a nonprescription syrup used to induce vomiting. it's very easy to find. although finding this question in the diet and fitness section gives me pause, it's commonly used by bulimics who don't want the tell-tale knicks on their knuckles you get when you "self-induce" vomiting.
if that's your case, you need to look for help as opposed to ipecac.

ask your pharmacist if anything over the counter possesses the same properties as ipecac and use the substitute.

I don't think you need a prescription for it. You can get it at any drug store - Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS, etc. Don't use it if you're just trying to lose weight, though. It's only meant to be used if you swallow something poisonous. It's not as harmful as the poison, but it's definitely not good for you.

Any drugstore of pharmecy will sell it. It is used to induce vomiting, usually for children that have swallowed something they shouldn't have. Look in the children's section.
