Why is there such conflict between the sunni's and shia's? Don't they believe in the same God?

Yongini, I am NOT picking on Muslims. There are obviously problems between the groups and I am wondering about the source of those problems.

Politics !!! .......Shiite and Sunnis believe in the God, same prophet, same book(Quran)and all other believes ...the only difference exist on Imams ! which is not a big difference becuase basic believes are same !! so on religion basis there is no reason fo fight but yes Politcaly some of the people in both the groups are playing as puppet for some politicaly powers without knowing their motives and creating law and order situation in that place and giving an objective for those political powers to get stronger.......its nothing but ignorance and stupidity !! and Thanx God its not happening everywhere.most of the parts in world they are living togather with love and peace....its only some places which are politicaly important and there such conflicts are created and used in wrong way !

May the peace, blessing and mercy of God be upon you

The conflict is there because the people have left the straight path, and deviated this is why there are problems caused by the enmity stirred up by Satan.

The main difference is who was the succesor of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, the people were of the opinion the most pious and knowledgable person should become the leader (this was Abu Bakr the first person to accept the Prophet Muhammads message from the Pagan Arabs). The Shia were of the opinion it should be the Prophet's nephew Ali. Ali did end up becoming the Caliph but he was the fourth Caliph.

It also has a little to do with stupid ignorant people and their ethnocentrism (which is forbidden in Islam). Between the Persians and the Arabs.

The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said "All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white- except by piety and good action."

Do you know what the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said?

He said if a Muslim fights another Muslim, and the one Muslim kills the other. They BOTH go to hell.

The people asked why?

They understood the murderer should go to hell for killing his fellow Muslim.

The Prophet explained that the one who was killed was also eager to kill his fellow brother.

May God guide the astray Muslims back to the straight path!

Peace Be with You

Same reason the Protestants and Catholics took turns burning each other in Europe for a couple of hundred years.

Same reason Fundamentalists can talk about how silly Mormons or Jehova's Witnesses are.

All of the above are forms of Christianity, all have the same God, all are convinced the others are nuts.

Why are you picking on the Muslims. This is about ancestry and tribal allegiance, not religion. BIG difference.
