This was due to the spreading of the good news by the apostles and other witnesses. The fact that Christianity spread so quickly is a rational data point for the validity of Christianity. No one would have went to their deaths willingly for a belief system that was known to be false.

It did not. Much later for political reasons Emperor Constantine of Rome declared it the official religion of the Roman empire and it became an over night success.

People spread the bible, God spread the word through Christ.
