Because the terrorist, radical islamic insurgents are still blowing up children in cars to cause political upheaval and trying to destablize the fledgling government before they are ready to completely self-direct. Did I miss anything? Or is the entire situation too complicated for you to understand?

Becasue we now have duty to help foster a stable Iraq. We are in the process of training Iraqi Security Forces while providing security ourselves. We know that a stable Iraq is a huge step towards a stable Middle East. Once Iraq can stand on its own two feet we will begin to draw back.

Updated answer --

Kristen ... I suspect we've seen this question before from other users, but I'll respond anyway. Notice I said "respond" and not "answer." Permit me, please to reply with another question.

Have you noticed that we still have 97,000 troops in Europe more than 60 years after the conclusion of World War II? How about South Korea where 30,000 U.S. troops are still stationed, more than 55 years after the suspension of that conflict? Let's not forget our other ally in Asia, Japan, where America still has approximately 34,000 service members stationed since THAT war ended in 1945. And let's not overlook 126,000 personnel aboard U.S. military vessels patrolling the seas of the world.

This being the case, I suspect we'll be in or very near Iraq for some time to come. I point this out to you with the hope of you realizing that freedom is not free ... That despite once being considered the conquerers, we're now close allies with the countries of Europe and in Japan where our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines still serve ... That keeping the peace doesn't magically happen by eliminating our presence from these far-away places.

Oh, and where did these troop figures come from, you wonder? Well, it helps to work for the Department of Defense, but if you don't enjoy that privilege, I cordially refer you to my link, below.

*Because sh!t is still hitting the fan overthere.

*So retards like you can ***** but don't do anything else.

*So Americans can put the Democrats into power but still have the same effect as the Republicans did beacuse they want to save face. Leaving Iraq will only make sh!t worst.

Don't they have FoxNews where you live?
If you want an honest answer to that question that network would be your best bet.
If, however, you are a mindless Bush-hater, you will be more comfortable with the more liberal sources like CBS,NBC and CNN.
And if you are a FAR left zealot...MSNBC is the channel for you...no thoughtful commentary at all - just hatred and vitriole all day, every day.

I want you to read this, I got this in an email message, please read the WHOLE thing

As you all know, fighting in Iraq is still unfortunately hostile. It has gotten to the point where many Americans feel enough is enough. It’s time to bring our men and women home. Have they forgotten? September 11, 2001, the United States of America was attacked by Muslim extremists as an act of hatred towards us and our way of life. Then, our President George W. Bush addressed the nation and the world that the enemies to America and its allies that harbor terrorists will not be tolerated by the United States, sending us into a global war on terror. Now many people are tired of this war in Iraq and want to end it. Have they thought of the consequences? Have they thought about the brave souls that are risking their lives and all ready gave theirs? I ask again. Have they forgotten?

Imagine how a soldier in Iraq feels. He returns to base after a fierce fire fight with insurgents, losing a good friend in the process. He enters the mess hall and, as anyone else would, just wants to sit and think on the time that has passed. Someone turns on the news in the hall and a commentator is expressing their thoughts on the war. “We don’t need this war. It’s completely pointless; everything over there is a lost cause. There is no need for us to be there anymore; we should just pull out.” The soldier who was mourning hears this. “Pointless?” he questions, “My friend just died to protect you from the enemies of America and you say his death meant nothing?” When we entered the war on terror two basic wars where started. That of which is fought through military power over seas, and the other one, that is being fought on U.S soil. I regret to say, that Americans seem to be surrendering with out any resistance at all in this war. The second war is that of which the terrorist use to break apart countries. This is the war on the mental state of a nation. The war in Iraq isn’t just a war. It is a single battle in a global war on terror. Terrorists want us to hate this war. They want us to turn against and our government and defeat ourselves the same way we did in Vietnam. These evil extremists have one goal: the destruction of America and its allies.
Speaking out against the war reaches over to them. It gives them hope that they are reaching their goal: the death of America. The annihilation of us! America, we need to fight back! Yes this war in Iraq is uncomfortably long. But, instead of pulling out all at once, and having all sacrifices be in vain, and giving our enemy motivation that we can be defeated, let’s fight back! Bring our troops home when the job is done, not when the time is right for our enemy to strike.
The problem is not the Iraqi people themselves; it’s those interfering with their future. The enemy in Iraq is not an Iraqi native, they are the forces sent by enemies of the U.S. to impede our progress. These are those of foreign governments. One of the main threats is Iran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian dictator, stated this to the world, “Israel should be wiped off the face of the Earth. Anyone who recognizes Israel will burn in fire of the Islamic nation’s fury.” My brothers and sisters, we are Israel’s greatest ally! For years Iran has been smuggling a nuclear weapons program under the nose of the United Nations Security Council. As the years go by these threats have become increasingly hostile. Recently evidence of Iranian presence in Iraq has been revealed. On February 11, 2007 Iranian bombs were discovered giving hard evidence that Iran is arming insurgency in Iraq. Pull out now and we will be faced with a dangerous future ahead. Give our enemy the motivation they need to succeed, and they will return. They will return to this nation to achieve there goal. They will not stop unless their overwhelming lust for blood is satisfied or we Americans come together and stop them with the same patriotism that flowed in our veins as on September 11, Th 2001.
Iraq is a foot hole in the mountain of the war on terror. At the the top of this mountain is the safety for the American people. Fight the Mental war. Defeat the enemy. Bring our soldiers home with the honor of a victory they deserve. Show our enemies that we will not be defeated and we will not surrender. Show them that their mission is the one that is hopeless. Come together and fight for our right to live!

we are in there for the same reasons why we went in
