While in the USA in February I watched tv at my mother's house. There was a special program (60 minutes?) about all the BAD workers hired by Home Depot. All the unfinished jobs and bad workmanship.
The final result was : always phone the Better Business Bureau in your area and get the list of COMPLAINTS about that particular installer, FIRST. Home Depot isn't going to give you that list. And they aren't going to give you a second installer for free!

Home Depot typically does not install anything. If you buy an installation from them, they simply hire another company to do the work and they pay them a portion of what you paid. I have purchased installations of a garage door and flooring from Home Depot and I have been satisfied with the contractors that they hired for the job.

Each answer will vary as each Home Depot uses its own independent contractors, just people in your area. Ask your question again identifying the store (like "It's the one on First Street in Smithtown) and you will get more helpful answers.

They don't do the work themselves, they subcontract it out. I had them do a ceramic tile floor in my bathroom and was very pleased. Home Depot wants you to be satisfied, so you won't likey get screwed on the price or the quality.

I agree with Jonmm, they just outsource the contractor to do the work. Theres plenty of good workers on craigslist who advertise everything from kitchen to painting.

I have never had anything installed but I did but an appliance from them and they do no service work, you have to do that yourself. Speaking from experience most places won't service it if you didn't but it from them.
