I prefer the ION. They sell many good ones at Sally, and other beauty supply stores.

Professional Hair Dryer
With so many different professional hair dryers on the market, how do you know that a $200 hair dryer is really better quality than a $20 hair dryer? The answer is simple. While there are many unique features a hair dryer can provide, there are some that you should always look out for when purchasing a professional hair dryer.

Wattage: While wattage varies among hair dryers, we always recommend something 1300 watts or above (unless a travel hair dryer). All of our professional hair dryer appliances fit this category. Some of our most popular professional hair dryers are the Chi Turbo Professional Hair Dryer, Chi Rocket Professional Hair Dryer, and the T3 Hair Dryer. Wattage directly affects how fast your hair dries (higher watts = more time to snooze in the morning).

Settings: This is usually where you can tell the difference between a cheap hair dryer and a high-end professional hair dryer. The exterior plastic, the internal parts, the buttons themselves are all made differently and of different quality. We recommend a hair dryer with multiple speed settings (which is standard on most hair dryers). The most versatile professional hair dryer on the market now with the most settings is the T3 Evolution Hair Dryer with 4 heat settings and 2 speed settings. If you don't need something that advanced, we suggest the Create Ionic Professional Hair Dryer which gives 2 speed settings plus a cool shot button.

Weight: Since a hair dryer is something you have to hold up in order to work properly, weight is usually a deciding factor for most consumers. Most professional hair dryers have a hair stylist in mind who has to hold it all day, so they tend to all be around 1 pound, more or less. Our lighest hair dryers include the Superstar Hair Dryer at around 12 ounces and the T3 Tourmaline Dryer which weighs in around 13 ounces. If you need something even lighter, we recommend going for a powerful travel dryer such as the T3 Travel Dryer so you don't have to sacrifice quality for weight.

Accessories: If you want to create more volume or waves to hair, be sure to pick up a hair dryer with a diffuser. While some come with diffusers, others you can purchase separately such as the T3 Tourmaline Diffuser which you can buy as an accessory with the T3 Featherweight Dryer or the T3 Evolution Dryer.

Material: While high-end hair dryers are normally made of ceramic coils or tourmaline, cheap hair dryers tend to be made with cheap materials. This means that even though you are paying less at the moment you purchase it, you may end up paying more to in the end because of the damage a cheap hair dryer could cause. If not protected properly, after prolonged blow drying, hair becomes brittle and eventually breaks because plastic or metal coils don't prevent any heat damage hair can endure.

Ionic Hair Dryers: Behind each hair dryer is science to back it up. Cheap hair dryers normally diffuser positive ions that cause the cuticle covering of the hair shaft to open, causing the frizzies and a dull appearance. Ionic hair dryers (what most professional hair dryers are) produce negatively charged ions, ostensibly causing the cuticle to remain flat, "trapping" moisture, thus eliminating the frizzies and giving hair more body. Plus, they promise to dry hair faster than regular dryers and leave it shinier and smoother. Ionic dryers are also supposed to banish the static electricity that results in a flyaway mess of hair. The standard ionic hair dyer is the Farouk Chi Turbo Hair Dryer which is known as the best hair dryer in advanced American technology.

Tourmaline Hair Dryer: Tourmaline was recently introduced to the hair science as the world's biggest generator of negative ions. With more negative ions, a hair dryer can create even more drying time (up to 70% faster) and unbelievably sleeker, shiny hair. Two of our favorite tourmaline dryers are the Hai Tourmaline Hair Dryer and the T3 Hair Dryer.

Other factors: If you still don't know which professional hair dryer you want, go for one that is well-known. While the Elchim Uragano Hair Dryer has been named Best of Allure, the Chi Rocket Hair Dryer and the T3 Hair Dryer are both favored among top stylists.
