Do a circle check of the car to make sure everything is in order before you get into the car (tire pressure, head/tail- light covers clean and rear view mirrors not broken, etc). Turn it on, buckle up, check the idiot lights on the dash and blink left, then right, check the headlights.
IMPORTANT: Make sure your rear view mirrors are adjusted properly for you. You should be scanning your mirrors 50% of the time and scanning the conditions in front of you the other 50%. You need to know what is going on ALL AROUND YOU.
Turn the stereo off!
Now you are ready to drive.
Use all the controls properly (blinks, flashers, etc). If you have practiced all the normal maneuvers (lane changes, turns, parking) then they should be 2nd nature.
DO NOT go over the posted speed limit. Glance down to the speedometer often. Watch for traffic signs indicating changes in posted speed.
Listen to the tester. Do NOT look at them or carry on a conversation. Even if you need clarification and need to ask a question, keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, mind on your driving.

I failed the first time I took my road test for not signalling when I switched lanes. In my state, one mistake and you're out! Also remember to release the parking brake! I almost forgot that one. Also remember to not go above 30, and try to relax before the exam. Good luck!

Make sure to check your stop light, the one in the middle above the two normal ones. That one tends to go unnoticed by most people, but will disqualify you. It should >only< light when you press the brakes.
Clean the car, to give a good impression. Empty the ashtray.
Make sure to slow and check all uncontrolled intersections.

During backing ,observation is very important and also proper steering and signalling.
Lane change :signal late, improper lane change, improper steering.
Turn:signalling not given, fails to get in proper position, right of way, turns too wide
PARKING;incorrect vehicle position.

not using your signals. hitting the curb when making a corner, unable to make a three point turn. not backing up straight, not kowing how to paralell park, forgetting to buckle up. you must be confident and show you are in control just relax if you have had drivers education you will do fine have them take you it is a better way to go than having your parents take you my two sons got theirs first try in ma.although my younger son became unresponsable and smoked weed and drove under the influenc ofd drugs and alcohol he smashed up three cars i bought for him. no more now he can save his money and buy his own he is a big worry to me he is 18
