Why would you want to start out thinking that way. The cheapest would be your own country...... so just stay home.

The idea of travel is to see great places and have fun. Sure you might want to have a budget but you can get the basic idea by comparing travel tours from on line web sites like Yahoo travel of Orbitz.

I loved Australia and it's cheaper than the US. I loved The Netherlands and it is a bit more expensive than the US.

Probably the cheapest are amongst the Asian countries. Hotels are a good indicator of overall pricing on service, food and transport.

Rooms are sometimes under $10 per night if you dig deep into these results. Some even have meals included!!

Vietnam:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com.au/Vietnam/ from $12 but i saw cheaper when i dug deep.

Cambodia:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com.au/Cambodia/

Thailand:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com.au/Thailand/ from $11 , but again I saw cheaper when i dug deep.

India:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com.au/India/ from $11

China:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com.au/China/ from $16

All of these places reflect the low labour costs in the areas and cost of service. Transport , meals are virtually just a few dollars a day.

If you want quality, the star rating of hotels is an indicator - and the pictures of the hotels on this site indicate what you might expect in that country on a more general level ie what market they cater for and how well they do it.

Not everything is man made though .... you need to think about environmental factors

In Europe the cheapest country seems to be Spain and the quality varies - but Europeans demand good standards.

Spain:http://www.cheaperthanhotels.co.uk/Spain/ from $15
http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com/Spain/Malaga/City-Centre/

The above sites are good for researching places as you can sort the results by price, location and star rating [ an indication of quality].

Hope that helps a bit
