How much better is an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz than a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz?

it depends what you are doing. the more cores the more you can multi task. if you play games then more cores will not help you. if you do a lot of video editing it will help

Theoretically, twice as good.

In practice, it depends on how well the software you use can utilize the extra two cores.
