I recently got a monroe last Tuesday, and there is this little volcano thing on the outside of my lip. Its a little hill thats really red, and around the hole, its a nasty white. I clean it daily, but the redness and pus wont go away, and its very embarrasing! It hurts and its red and dry all with yellowish pus coming out....(sorry if I grossed anyone out) I went to the guy who did it, and he said it was normal, and just irritated. I dont wanna cover the red with makeup, but I need it to go away cuz I wanna enjoy my piercing, not hide it. Are my symptoms normal for over a week after having my monroe??

you have a PLANTERS WART ive had them too. theres this stuff you can get at like CVS. but for something more affective tell your doctor. what it is, is a aplacator with a q-tip sorta thing u place directly on the wart and press. this FREEZES the wart and stops the plantars wort from getting worse, or presisting, and eventually helps it go away within a few weeks

I was amazed at all the negative comments this question got. With a 16 year old girl this is a tricky area. If you out right say no she might go do in anyway or worse do it herself (my sister did 4 of her own piercings nose bellybutton and both ears) Teens especially girls can get very upset over something like this that may seem trivial to most other people. My recommendation would be to tell her that she can get it done in 2 months, if she still wants it, and that she has to do a weekly chore (something beyond her usual stuff) Every single week between now and then to earn it. It wont be a no, but she'll have 2 months to let the idea sink in, and she will have to earn it- not just have it handed to her. It's alot better to have a dialogue with your daughter about things, rather then just saying- "I don't think it looks nice so you can't do it" I'm sure you can remember a time when you wanted something your mother thought was hideous. (so many picture of my mother's mullet and my dad's afro)

It probably is not an infection, just dead cells that need to leave the piercing. This is a good thing. It'll last another week or so and should calm down.
Stay away from Neosporin, peroxide, alochol, etc. Get some sea salts and just do a soak for about 10 minutes everyday with lukewarm water.
You definitely don't want to put make up on it. You may be getting some in there when you put make up on (ie. powder blush?) or hair products (ie. hairspray).
You also want to change your pillow cases often. Since most people tend to roll around in their sleep, if your pillow cases aren't clean, it will only make the irritation worse.

What are you using for aftercare?
Antibacterial soaps, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, tea tree oil, mouthwash and bactine will irritate piercings. If you are using any of these products, stop immediately.
You should be using sea salt soaks 2-3 times daily. Nothing else.
Don't put makeup on it, you will only make it worse.
It's only been a week, so some irritation is normal. The yellowish 'pus' is most likely lymph, which is normal for a piercing for up to a year (most likely much shorter period of time with a monroe, and it gets less and less with time)
Relax, take proper care of it and things should calm down within a week or two

It sounds like it's infected. You should clean it with saline solution two or three times a day, if you aren't already. DO NOT PUT MAKEUP ON IT!! This will only MAKE IT WORSE!! Maybe go see a doctor, and he/she can prescribe antibiotics, although they may try to convince to you to take it out. Don't take it out, the jewellry will act as a drain for the infection. If you take it out, the openings will close up and the infection will be trapped inside.
**** Do not use neosporin or polysporin or anything like that. Also, do not use peroxide, yes, it may kill the infection, but it will also damage any healthy healing tissue.
Also, what is the jewellry made out of? You could be having an allergic reaction to the metal, or maybe the jewellry is too small and is rubbing it and irritating it.

The piercing sounds like it's infected. I would thoroughly clean it with peroxide. You don't want to do this to often since this will dry it out. Perhaps after put a little neosporin on the outside (only). Then continue to clean it regularly with whatever was recommended by the piercer. Hope this helps.

It sounds like an infection to me. I would have it checked out by a doctor if I were you. The reason I think this could be an infection is because of the yellowish pus you described, pus is often a sign of infection.
