I can capture photos from the SD picture card in my hitachi DZ=MZ580A DVD Camcorder, but I can't get the video from the dvd mini disc. I have tried re-installing the driver, I've tried plugging into different usb ports. Nothing works, I'm using software the company recommends, nothing detects my device and when it's plugged in it shows up as an F drive a CD drive. You click it and it pops up error F Drive isn't asscessible. I tried just putting the dvd mini disc in the computer and it just reads as a blank cd. I NEED this video so i can put it on regular dvd's what do i need to do to get it?

Finalise the DVD and then put it in your PC's drive.

You're not saying what format, etc.

The EASIEST way to got is a SET TOP burner ($80) and then use your Yellow, Red and White RCA cords to connect the DVD camcorder to the set top.

That's the easiest way.

You probably need to FINALISE your disk OR your computer DVD unit can't read the format.

There are a variety of forms.

DVD-R is the most common
DVD+R is less common but popular
DVD-RW and +RW has a lot of incompabiltieis.

DVD-R must be formatted and finalized.

DVD+R doesn't, but YOU MUST have a +R compatible player.

DVD RAM and DVD DUAL LAYER and virtually incompatible with anything.

Only Panasonic and Hitachi can deal with RAM

Only $200 burners can deal with Dual Layer.

Now, even if you get your computer to READ the disk you are still liabel to have problems.

The files on your MiniDVD disk are ALREADY in ENCODED packages, generally VOB files.

I'm not sure even Nero can put these onto a full size disk in the proper method.

Nero likes to look for full size AVI encoded packets and then turn that into VOB encoded packets.

So you may need to RIP your DVD disk with conversion software that either makes it MPEG2 or AVI container.

THEN if it is a FULL SIZE AVI container that NERO has a CODEX for, Nero can re-assmble it into a full size DVD.

This is way I favor the SET TOP METHOD, even though you are going to loose a little quality.

If you DVD unit has S-VIDEO, then pay a little more and get a SET TOP burnder with S-VIDEO and you're quality will be better.

Otherwise just go with the three color RCA cords.

If you have a DVD READER and a DVD BURNER (as I do) you can POSSIBLY copy the Mini DVD disk to a full size one with Nero and it might work.

Experiment.

This is about all you can do and what I would do.

Again, this is why I say Pay $80 for a set top DVD burner and use the RCA cords.

It's the fastest, easiest method but your quality might degrade.

Then, again encoding, decode, re-coding inside your comptuer could degrade it FURTHER than the RCA cords will, so that might not be the best method, either!

First the easy part. Your mini-DVD probably needs to be Finalized before your computer can read it, so check your manual to see if that's an option you can set.
As for the wire connection, you can try uninstalling the device before you reinstall the driver. It is always good practice to go to the manufacturer's support page to look for an updated driver. If Hitachi is anything like the Panasonic camcorders I use, the usb cable is ONLY there for transferring still pictures from the SD card and a different cable (firewire, S-video, or yellow RCA) must be used to transfer video.
