A bushel is a unit of dry volume, usually subdivided into eight local gallons in the systems of Imperial units and U.S. customary units. It is used for volumes of dry commodities, not liquids, most often in agriculture. It is abbreviated as bsh. or bu.

1 U.S. bushel = 35.23907017 litres = 8 corn/dry gallons = 9.309177489 wine/liquid gallons
1 Imperial bushel = 36.36872 litres = 8 Imperial gallons

Aaargh! A bushel is the most frustrating unit of measure ever. As mentioned below, it is 8 gallons of dry volume. It is also a unit of mass relative to the specific thing being measured (for example a bushel of wheat is 60 lbs, a bushel of barley is 48 lbs).
Now to confuse things further, it is also a count measure. A bushel of Malpeque oysters is 120 oysters. But wait! A bushel of Coromandel Oysters from New Zealand is 160 oysters, and they are about the same size.
So, bushel seems to fall into the same nebulous category of measurement as a few, several, clutch, grip, and boat load.
