It is important to be on thiamine and B vitamin complex, but drugs to avoid the DTs like chordiazepoxide are prescription only. Overall it is probably better to get help from your doctor or local C.A.T. ( community addiction team) anyway as they may also be able to give you other help.

There may well be but as someone who has worked with people with drug and alcohol addiction, please get some professional advice. It's safer and probably more effective in the long term. If you have a serious addiction suddenly stopping without support can be dangerous. Also contrary to one answer don''t drink too much water as too much water can kill you by causing your brain to swell due to changes in the concentration of your salt levels . Take vitamin b12 and toast and marmite. There is a natural Valium type drug you can get from Boots called valirium or something like that.It is quite calming. Luckasade is good for energy your brain can only use glucose and so you don't spend energy converting fats and sugars . Stay out of wet places i.e pubs . Mix with people who don't abuse alcohol. Do things you enjoy and make you feel better about yourself . Go on a health kick and buy good nutritious food.

You should go to www.drnatura.com and order the Colonix pack. This helps you to detox and should reduce your cravings for alcohol and make you feel better as a person. You should still go see a doctor because alcoholism is a disease. Would you try to operate on yourself? Good luck with everything, you are strong enough to break this addiction!!!!!

Not really and not really the right route to go.

What I do believe helps with alcohol is B vitamins (that is apparently a major thing that alcohol burns when you consume it and part of what makes you feel drunk).

These you don't have to get from a doctor and might help.

You're taking the alcohol to escape from something anyway, so now you want another drug to help you escape from something else ... go to an AA meeting. That's what you need.

No there aren't any drugs you can get OTC for alcohol withdrawal. You need to boost your vitamin intake as alcohol destroys vitamins found in your diet.

Occasionally doctors prescribe Atenolol for treatment of alcohol withdrawal, prevention of migraine headache, and bouts of anxiety.

I am not advising this but I know that it is used.
