Once again a certain religious group is trying to take control over America. First, denying human rights to gays. Now to control what we read. What is next?
People are more worried about a book than children being molested. Why aren't people protesting child pornography on the internet? Why aren't people protesting slavery that still exists today even in the U.S. Why are people so worried about a good entertaining book?

I probably would never have noticed Harry Potter, if my daughter hadn't come to me talking about how Christians were saying how evil it is...claiming it had child sacrifices and all sorts of horrors in it.
I'm a Christian, and a grandmother. Out of concern, I bought the DVD and watched "The Sorcerer's Stone". I was hooked. I now own all the movies and all the books, and recommend them heartily.
Of course, I've been condemned by certian people, not only for Harry Potter, but for watching Disney movies with my grandchildren, and even for "allowing" them to watch "The Wizard of Oz" in my house. (seems the objection is the evil witch in The Wiz)....
Some folks would really be better off if they found a good hobby......

I've read all the Potter books and seen all the movies. I own them, in fact. To me, it's just another setting for a teenage adventure. Although the plot has become increasingly darker, I don't have a big problem with it. It's just fiction, and I'm well grounded in my faith. What everyone is freaking out about is the witchcraft aspect. I'd say it's up to each person to make their own choice for themselves and their kids. I do not let my 5 year old watch very much of it, except the first one. But no, I don't think you'll 'go to Hell' for it.

It all comes down to fundamentalists who don’t understand REAL witchcraft. They hear “Wizard” and “Magic” and assume it’s the devil worshiping blood drinking cultists trying to corrupt the world’s youth. They say even a loose interpretation of magic such as this leads children to paganism (wooooo) The only thing Harry Potter is leading the world’s children to is a higher reading level, and encouragement that reading can be fun.

People fear witchcraft, and feel any small, seemingly innocent reference to witchcraft will instantaneously drive all children towards evil practices and ventures.
Harry Potter, however, is more a role model than a bad influence. So any thought that he can make children evil is ridiculous

My guess is that HP rattles people some because they figure anything so hugely popular must be evil. There's lots of other stories with witches. The Chronicles of Narnia is full of magic and witchcraft and it was writtten by a prominent Christian theologian named CS Lewis.

The preacher in 'Jesus Camp' preaches that Harry Potter is evil. Then in the next scene, the kids are talking about how one kid looks like Harry Potter. Priceless.

That is the opinion of narrow minded bible thumpers, unfortunately, they talk the loudest. But on the up side, those books have sold record amounts. And you are correct, there is nothing wrong with a FANTASY series.

*scoffs* typical church *eyeroll*
look at it this way. every religion out there says you're going to hell unless you join (enter random faith name here) & be saved.
its impossible to join every single friggen religion out there so no matter what you do, you're going to hell anyway cuz you not part of that other church across the street.
& if you join the satanic church you still go to hell.
so it really doesnt matter if you read HP or not cuz we're all going to hell.
basically, i beleive that if there's a god, he'll love & accept you for who you are & that only really bad people...like hitler & poeple like that...will be destroyed.
