No, not all. I brought my cell phone to Barbados, it didn't work.. Can't place calls nor send/receive text messages, it may work when turning it on, but that's about it. It all depends what cell phone company you're with. But I can assure you that NOT ALL cell phones work, some do. The new cell phone I have works in Barbados. I have two, so all I know is one doesn't work, one works. And my new cell phone, I'm with Rogers Wireless. So check with your cell phone company before travelling.
Hope this helps.

Honestly, with all the years I have been traveling back and forth to PR and different states, the only company that never give me a problem is Criket ... AT&T is good but looking for a good spot for signal... And metro pc .., these 3 were working maybe because I have an iPhone. And I'm talking including the mountains. Sprint and Verizon they are not good. They use their own phones for PR and their customer service is horrible. They say it works , but believe me it doesn't... Even my sister had an iPhone from PR and came to Tx and wasn't working ... Not receiving calls... Maybe once out 200. Calls. Even like that, they made her pay penalty because she was under contract, when they were supposed fo just not charge any penalties... She had no ther option than buy a new phone in TX with a new provider. So, if you are traveling and all depends what part of the island, better check... But even the provider may give you a no so accurate info.

U should check with your own provider but normally Sprint/Nextel, Cingular, Verizon, Suncom, AT&T works well over here because they have full coverage for Puerto Rico and the US virgin Islands.
If you call your provider be sure to mention the area codes (787) & (939)
good luck!

Verizon works in puerto rico but not all of its mobil web features. It is also part of the nationwide network so it doesn't cost more to use it. for example, i live in pr but my cell phones are from ohio and i don't get charged any extra for using them. Check with your provider to be sure so that you don't get charged extra!

All the major companies do. Cingular, ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, ... No extra charges. If you do call to your provider specify that PR is part of the US, we have our own area code, and that calls from PR to the US are not considered international. Sometimes the people at the help desk or support don't know that and might give you incorrect information.

Most of them do, I think, but beware that your company doesnt charge roaming charges or you will end up with a hefty bill. You can always call them and ask if they have coverage in Puerto Rico.

Verizon, Sprint, Cingular all are the same as in the US. Others may or may not. Beware of roaming charges.
