If you're only using an outer envelope then you have to address the envelope to everyone that is invited. Anyone who's name is not on the envelope is going to assume that they are not invited......

You would address the envelope
Mrs. and Mrs. Casey Jones
Miss Samantha, Miss Denise,Master Stephan
123 Brake Road
Anytown AM, 09999
This way the parents know all of the children are invited too.
Also do not use any abriviations other than Mr. Mrs. Ms. Jr. (for junior) and Dr. (for doctor). Other than that no abriviations are to be used. Do not abreviate Reverand, Colonel, or Captain
Also using the words "and family" are not to be used. This is considered not formal and a breach of etiquette.
I hope this helped you with all the questions you could have reguarding how to address the envelope!
Good luck

Just be sure you write out the exact names of who is attending!
Example: Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
If they have children, make sure you write out each child's name, and it's probably better not to write "and family", becuase then they'll invite God knows who.
kateqd30>>I have to disagree with you!! LOTS of people are not using inner envelopes, and it still looks just as nice! Inner envelopes were started waaay back in the day to keep the invitation looking nice. Mail has gotten a tad bit more modern in the past 100 years. And it DOES save you money! Nice envelopes aren't cheap, and that extra $30 you're saving can pay towards something else.
Oh and if you can, try to use RSVP. It might cost a little more with postage, but it helps out sooo much!

You'll want to include everybody's name that you want there.
So if you're sending it to Joe Smith and Susie Smith and they have 5 kids address it like this:
Mr. &. Mrs Joe Smith
and John, Mary, Chris, Ann, Billy
125 56th St. NE
City, ST 97056
so the first line would be to who you would normally address the outer envelope to then add the people you would write in the inner evelope So it's like both in one.
You could also just act like it's the outer envelope then write inside the invite each name- that way it's more personal and you don't have to show the whole world each person in the household.
God Bless!

Why arent you using the inner envelope? Its specifically for naming the exact invitees, so if you have them, you should use them. But if you decide against it you'll have to address them just like you would the inner envelopes saying & Guest, & Family etc.

Huh? I didnt say anything about most people using the inners, I asked why was she not using them if she had them, as I've never personally seen an invite without one.(and she didnt initially say if she had them or not) But then answered for her scenario of not using them. I dont understand why you just put me on shout?

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe spell out everything
Ms. Jane Doe and Guest (if you know the guest name write it)
If you are inviting the whole family write out Mr.and Mrs John Doe and Jimmy,Tom and Kate( do it oldest to youngest. I heard never write and family)
Also when you recieve you invitations their should be a card in there showing you haw to address them. Or you can ask you printer.

For adults only, it would be Mr and Mrs John Smith.
If they have 1 child, I would put, Mr and Mrs John Smith and Kelly,
and if they have more than 1 child, and children are invited, I would say Mr and Mrs John Smith and family.

the main suitable pen for one man or woman is probably no longer the main suitable for yet another. it truthfully relies upon on one's writing form. i like gel pins...and that they have got them in such fairly some colorations now!!! I recommend making an investment some money into finding out to purchase distinctive ones and write with each and each of them..... i won't be in a position to work out any other way for you in looking that "appropriate PEN"! I desire you all the main suitable and desire your wedding ceremony is all which you dreamed of and extra!!!!! ~maximum suitable desires~
