If you only got 12 cake holders, use all 12 first, then make another 12 batch after you pop those first ones out. you can tell if the cakes are done by inserting a toothpick in the cakes, and if it comes out clean, then they are done. don't adjust the temp of the oven or anything. adding food coloring to the batter won't hurt a thing.

its fine to make the whole batch of batter together. you shoudl have a whirl from making it all from scratch - really easy to do. dont worry about making half the batter sitting there while half bakes. you could always give it another stir/whisk before u fill the cases, but even that isnt necessary. i make loads - recently made 350 for a wedding, and each batch of mix made about 85-90 cakes. i had two 12 hole tins in at a time, so 24 cooking at around 15 mins per batch, so by the time the last batch went it the batter had been around for some time and they were all as perfect as the first batch.
make sure u ice the tops to make 'em as pretty as your girlfriend! would be prettier to colour the icing - icing sugar and butter/marg for soft icing, or icing sugar with water (drops at a time!) and your chosen colour for icing that sets.
and dont lower the temp - but u might want to check a few mins before they are meant to be done.
good luck!

Don't worry. You can put half the batter in at 325 for 21 minutes still because the time and heat is for each individual one. Basically, it doesnt matter how many cupcakes are in because it takes 21 minutes in that heat for each individual one to bake. The heat isn't divided. Also, check to see if your food colouring is edible. It should be on the package.

just follow the directions on the box. you can add food coloring to the batter if you want. you'll have to make the first 12 and then when those are done you can put the next 12 in. good luck. your a good guy to do that for your girl.

You are right - you can make the cupcakes in batches; you don't have to reduce the temperature, either. Following the directions on the box would be your best bet.
Yes, you can add food coloring to your batter. You can make any kind you wish - the food coloring directions should help you with color combinations.

What a lucky girlfriend.
You can definetly cook two batches of cupcakes and you don't need to adjust the time or temperature.
I suggest adding a box of Jello to the cupcake. Something like strawberry, dyes them red and give them more flavor. Just stir in the jello after you've mixed all the other ingrediants.

You bake the fist12, then when they are done you use the rest of the batter to make the rest. Adding coloring to the it I dont think would hurt it. Just read the directons and enjoy....
(Most cup cake pans are only 12)

That's very sweet to back her cup cakes since you wouldn't share your girl Scout cookies with her.
The posters above are correct. You can also make them swirl cup cakes by putting a small drop of the food coloring on top each cup cake ( before you put them in the oven)and use a toothpick to make a circle with the food color. It gives them a swirled look. Very pretty . Good luck hon, oh are you back in school yet ?
