yes you can drive to canada(from usa), before jan 1,2008-
Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.
As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries.

Good Lord, I wish people would pay more attention to current events especially if they wish to do any travelling. Passport for AIR TRAVEL ONLY starting Jan 2007, crossing by car is fine with picture ID or drivers license, Birth Certificate etc.same as it has always been until JAN 2008. Just to mix up Americans more they may start to accept the new drivers licenses issued in Canada instead of passports for Canadian residents and waive Passport ID for individuals under 17.

Very definatly yes for year 2007 anyway. Now you need a passport to fly in or going in by boat but not by autombile. You should have a certified birth certificate if you have one just in case but a passport no.

The new passport law is for AIR TRAVEL ONLY if you dont believe me, call the state department.

As of like January 31st or some random date like that... no, unless you drive through like the wilderness or something and skip the border crossing! You thought the lines for the crossing were long? They're about to get a LOT longer. Sorry, dude. No luck.
