Oh my god I have the perfect song for it. I don;t realy know what the song is called but a guy sang it to his grandma(which is deceased) thanking her for her support and just being in his life. The song goes something like this "i wish you were here with me.....so you could see me" i know jamie foxx perfored it once and he cried while he sang it. Im gonna look it up and get back to you.
I found the lyrics
by the time you get this letter
i might be doin better
its kinda hard to survive
in all this crazy weather
everybody wants my number
everybody's callin my name
but in the midst of all of this
i can still hear you say
son, walk upright
and straighten yo tie
you don't want one of those good jobs to pass you by
don't act no fool, i'm watching you
and now that you're gone
it still feels like you do,i wish
(chorus)
i wish u were here
to see the things i've done
i wish u were here
you'd be so proud of your son
i wish u were here
to celebrate with me
i wish u were here
(verse 2)
now all of these people ask me
"is it lonely at the top?:"
or do i find comfort
in all the things i got
well these cars keep me movin
these planes keep me high
a million dollar home
but i'm barely gettin by
cause...
i miss our talks,
one thing u used to say (used to say)
when things got hard (hard on me)
get down on your knees and pray
and then those walks (then those walks)
its just the simple thangs
we still do all of this
bu only in my dreams, i wish
(chorus)
i wish u were here
to see the things i've done
i wish u were here
you'd be so proud of your son (you would be so proud of yo son)
i wish u were here (thats all i kno to say, thats all i kno to pray)
to celebrate with me
i wish u were here
but sometimes i wonder why
why cant u still be here wit me?,
wish god would've waited a couple more years for u to see
i'm tryna stay strong
barely holdin on
i kno i'll see u again,
but for right now, rest in peace
and when i get to heaven
first thing they'll say to me
tell me have u seen sl marie talley
find out where u are,
run into your arms
wrap yo wings around me
and whisper in my ear, well done
(chorus)
i wish u were here
to see the things i've done
i wish u were here
you'd be so proud of your son
i wish u were here
to celebrate with me
i wish u were here

I would like to suggest that this is your wedding, not a memorial service. The day you and your love get married, in my opinion, should be dedicated to that only. It is not a "kitchen sink" type of day when you perform other observances. A wedding is a joining of 2 lives, a reception is a party to celebrate that joining.
It is not only that it will be sad for all the people who knew and loved your grandparents. There will also be many people there who never met them, could not care less, and that will cheapen the effort.
Just treat the day and the party as your celebration, not a town meeting. In the wedding I was maid of honor for, the bride's father was deceased. She wanted the DJ to play "Daddy's Little Girl" and she wanted to dance alone on the dance floor. She was convinced not to.

I think this is a beautiful idea. To remember the people who loved and supported you is a wonderful thing. I know of one song that is beautiful, yet sad. It's definetly a tear jerker. However, if introduced properly in the memory of the grandparents, I think it would go over well. The group "Boys 2 Men" performed a song called "It's hard to say goodbye to yesterday". We played this at my grandmothers services. Once the song was over, I stood up and read a beautiful poem in her honor, which stopped the sad tears and made everyone smile. I think if you and your fiancee were that close to your grandparents, then you should include them in the most important day of your life...even if others don't understand. I truly wish you the best of luck with your decision and song choice. And congrats on your marriage!

i dedicated songs to my deceased grandparents. it was emotional but it felt good doing it and several people thought it was very touching and were glad we did it.
the song we chose was a country song called holes in the floor of heaven or you could also use love,me.
we pretty much had the dj say now at this time the bride and groom wanted to dedicate a song to their grandparents in loving memory to have them here with them. the floor was cleared and he and I and our parents danced. everyone wached with tears, but we partied like there was no tomorrow after. we did it right after the dedicated dances--the first dance, the parents dance, the bridal party then that dedication.
or you can think of songs both grandparents like and dedicate it that way as well.

I dont want to rain on your parade, but I would really rethink this if I were you. It is very possible that doing something like this would put a damper on the festivities and bring everyone down. I can totally understand where you heart is in this, but I dont know how it would go over.
Instead of doing the special song, could you maybe have a memorial vase of flowers in their honor, something that doesnt scream what its for, but when you look at it during the reception you know that it symbolizes your grandparents.
Just something to think about.

I think this is a great idea! It's something different than the old boring memory candle.
Did they have any special song? Did they have a certain song that was played at their wedding? DO you remember any certain type of music they enjoyed?

How sweet! Do you know if they had a song they both loved? If not, pick one from their era to dance to in their honor.
Congrats on your wedding!
