I just recently got engaged to a wonderful man, Brandon. He is 17. We have been together for almost a year and we have been friends for longer. We don't plan on actually getting married till a long time. In about 3 - 5 years. We also plan on attending college together. I really do love him. He treats me as though I'm his Queen and I treat him as though he is my King. I am truly happy when I am around him. Even when I cry, I'm just so glad he is around. I find myself that at night if he is not at my house I can't sleep, since I'm so used to him staying the weekend with me.
So I guess my question is, do you think that we are stupid for getting engaged so young? I just want someone else's opinion, even if it comes from a bunch of strangers.

oh and just to let you know, he lives about 30 minutes away from me. It's close enough to visit but for away enough so that we can meet other people.

No I don't think your stupid. I think you are in love. Nothing wrong in that. And congratulations on your engagement. I am glad to hear you are planning on college and that he is as well. If you two are in love than it is great that you are thinking of your future together. You can never plan enough when it comes to your future. Love only comes around a couple of times in life. Do not lose yours. Just do not tie the knot until all the goals are met. Now what does the ring look like?? giggle

In my opinion it is really good to wait 3-5 years or longer. I got married at 17 and today I wish I hadnt married him. It was way to soon but you also say you have been friends for while if you have only been friends for like a year or two I would wait. You guys arent even out of high school yet and it is a different world after high school. Believe me I'm only 19.

Love doesn't always ask for a persons age - it sounds to be as if you are truly in love. And since you don't plan to get married for awhile you both still have time to grow and mature. Please remember that a relationship is like a living thing and needs to be tended and cared for. And marriage is the hardest job you will ever have, but one that can have the best benefits. your not stupid to get engage your just to young don't rush into thinks you"ll get marry when the time is right you should worry about school so when you do get marry you will be a verry good working wife not depending on your husband. enjoy you youth go places be with your boy friend but do things the right.

I don't necessarily think it's dumb to be engaged, but I think it's good you are going to wait to get married. I'd say wait until you finish college completely. People change a lot thru college and you may find yourselves no longer in love or that you're different in a few years.

I don't think y'all are "stupid" because you just have strong feelings for each other. But, I do think y'all are too young to be thinking about tying the knot just yet. I'm glad y'all are planning on giving it a few years but please at least wait until 21+ before any long term decisions are made.

i wouldn't say stupid.
i am a little older than you and i was with a guy for 2 years. i really thought we were going to get married. but when i went to college our whole relationship changed. you really don't know that this guy is the "one" for you. i think you should go off to college seperately. or atleast spend a little time apart to realize if that is what you really want.
and if it is..congrats for finding him already :o)
