Norma's in Le Parker Meridian Hotel on 57th Street serves a great breakfast, but, it's not a typical breakfast and it's not cheap.

If you want an excellent, extremely cheap breakfast and are willing to go to Greenwich Village, have breakfast at The Village Den on Greenwich and West 12th Street. They serve "typical" breakfast fare.

Here's two for you, the Astro Diner and the Star Diner. The Astro is on 6th Ave and 55th street. The Star is on 7th Ave and 54th street. Both are great for breakfast!

Sarabeth's, one on the eastside, one on the westside. They make all their own baked goods and all their own jellies. everything is fresh and fantastic. Love the restaurant.
Also, Annie's, 78th Street, on either Lex or Third. I always get confused between those streets. it's a local place, not at all filled with tourists.
Also on lower East side, Clinton St. Bakery. But, that one has long waiting line.

Try arties on 83rd and Broadway. Great breakfast food, reasonable price.
