Both are more concerned with convincing others that they are on a higher moral ground than in actually seeking the truth. Both also rely on making poorly researched and overgeneralized anecdotal arguments to knock the other side like "all religious people are just ignorant fundies", "religion is just a crutch for weak-minded people", or "atheists are evil". They may also use ad hominem attacks like equating people who do bad in the name of a religion with the religion itself.

Atheists have nothing to prove, however. Theists have everything to prove. The presence of an ignorant and/or rude atheist does not negate the fact that the burden of proof still lies on the theists. If you find kindness coming from the atheists, remember it is more sincere because it is self-motivated rather than acting out what they think a god or someone else wants them to do. People who still believe in fairy tales in this day and age present major threats to the future of mankind. Be glad there is any kindness at all coming from the sane.

Can you name name some of these alleged "atheists who hate on religion"? I'm not saying they don't exist, but I am saying that I know a number of atheists and not one of them hates religion. So I wonder where you get your information.

There is an informative website at www.FFRF.org and although I suppose they are atheists I don't see any evidence of hate.

Anything is bad when you take it to an extreme. People who say things like that are just looking for a reason to feel morally superiour to other people. I sincerely doubt that God has very much to do with it.

No comparison. When was the last time an atheist flew an airplane into a building or blew up an abortion clinic?

Sure.

I think it really reduces to personality types. Personally, I come on these boards more to firm up my own conceptions and to practice my writing style than to "convince" anybody; but I've noticed that in many ways, I DO have a lot in common with the fundies. I believe that I've apprehended certain truths that I'd like to share with people in order to deliver them from their ignorance and superstition. I know they won't "like" it, but I think it's for their own good not to place their "faith" in exploded fairy tales. The fundie position is really very similar.

The "difference," of course, is merely our criteria for "truth." It's possible to start with any conception and build one's universe around it.

Yes.
I suggest avoiding qustions like "aren't religious people just stupid" or "do atheists know they are going to hell"....
They aren't good for your mental health.

They are very similar--though they would rather die than admit that. They pose these 'questions' which aren't really questions at all, simply thinly-veiled insults. It's annoying.
