Yes of course a doctor can refuse to treat you. There are rules though. You may not abandon a patient. That is, if you are an established patient with a physician he/she may not simply not see you one day because you don't have money in your pocket. After time if you habitually do not pay for services rendered, a doctor may terminate the relationship. This is usually done formally with a certified letter and with 30 day notice and an offer to see the patient for emergent conditions requiring care in the next 30 days.

Emergency rooms have a responsibility to evaluate and treat you for life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions. They are required to provide care that "stabilizes" a condition or transfer a patient to a facility that can. If you arrive with a back pain - you can be evaluated to be sure it is not mennigitis and a back fracture but after it is determined that the condition is stable, the ER is not required to further treat the condition. [Under the EMTALA law]

If you have no relationship with a provider, he/she has does not have to initiate a relationship with you - regardless of the reason or circumstances.

Good luck.

Yes they can. It's sad but true. I know there is reduced clinics that base what you pay on what you make.. and a not for profit clinic can also treat you for free.. and like the rest a hospital ER can not refuse to treat you regaurdless... So if you are ill I would go to the Er.. hope you fell better soon...

A doctor can refuse to treat you for giving him a weird look or having a piercing or something silly like that.

They really aren't required by any moral or legal standard to treat anyone, they're working like everyone else.

Just as a store can refuse to sell to someone, or a gardening service can refuse to sell their service to a customer, a doctor can refuse to treat you.

Yes a privately practicing Dr. can refuse to treat anyone they wish. If you go to a hospital ER they con not refuse to examine you or render life saving treatment but they are not required to give you any treatment you "request", IE they will treat your broken arm or heart attack but will not remove a mole or do gastric by-pass surgery.

Yes, a doctor can refuse treatment for any reason...but a hospital CANNOT (at least, a hospital that accepts Medicare funding cant!).

Go to the ER.
Hope you feel better.

Many medical doctors do not settle for task from scientific assistance, Medicaid or Medicare because of fact they don't pay the medical doctors as much as coverage companies do. there is not something unlawful approximately medical doctors turning her away because of fact they might not be signed up as a supplier for those classes. Even medical doctors that do settle for Medicaid, scientific assistance and Medicare frequently in basic terms settle for a definite form of those sufferers at any given time. precise now my brother in regulation is on scientific assistance and SSI for congestive heart failure. he's able to bypass to the VA yet has gotten substandard scientific care there so he desires to get a doctor close to his homestead, yet won't be able to locate one that is at present taking medicaid sufferers that he's delicate with. My mom has been denied surgeon centers because of fact she is now on medicare and the surgeon who took over the prepare does not settle for medicare. this might nicely be a extra elementary incidence than human beings comprehend.

by the code of honour,nope
but in real life, ya
especially when the cost of medication or the medical procedure could be expensive
for instance, they could look at you for free, but they will always recommend a specialist or analysis that require money or medical insurance
the same for the dental emergency
