is the dentist responsible to do this at his cost as he did not do it originally or as he says 25% cases develop a need to do a root canal after a crown at some point, maybe a year later or even as soon as I have had to do it.

The same thing happened to my husband. The dentist put in an expensive crown and then a few months later, developed an infection and had to have a root canal through the new crown. It was no big deal, the root canal was done and they sealed it back up and he has had no further problems with it.
But I know what you mean, you pay all that money to get the tooth fixed and then find that it wasn't really fixed. Good luck

As he didn't originally do the crown i don't think he is responsible for the cost. It can depend on whether the tooth is a front one or at the back, sometimes a hole can be made in the crown so the dentist can gain access to the nerves, then he can fill it up with a filling like material. This could save you having to pay for a whole new crown.

sometimes when you have a crown done it becomes too much of the stress for a tooth and it gives up and dies. No one can predict which tooth will die and to do a preventive root canal is barbaric.

Sorry for your pain, but i guess your tooth had enough of the abuse. At least you don't have to have a crown replaced, since the dentist can go through the top to get the nerv out.

Good luck.
