Ok, this is something that I've been noticing. In a group of friends, I'll notice both girls and guys saying, "Oh, I still love you." or, when we are leaving, girls would say, "Love ya!" And I know what they are getting at - they mean we're good friends and what not.

But I feel it just gets thrown around like it's just another word. And when the time comes when you do love someone for real, it's almost like it loses its meaning.

There was this girl that I must have known for about a couple weeks, so I didn't really even know her that well, and she was saying "I love you" like it was just another phrase.

Am I making too big a deal of this? Anyone feel the same way?

I agree with you that you shouldn't tell someone you Love them till you really mean it with all your heart...but it doesn't bother me when used in play..as Love ya..when someone is leaving...........they are used entirely different and one has nothing to do with the other........just a note I didn't say I Love You to my b/f for 10 months after we met .....

yeah... because sometimes people dont want to take it too seriously they think if they do they will just be hurt.

the word love can easily hurt especially when the listener or the reciever of that word is the one who almost believes on that saying never know that the one who says that doest feel the same way.

you just hope and pray that it was serious but it was not really.

what is important nowadays is that never believe on just a word see his/her actions.
words can actually never tell how much deeply you love a person unless she/he actually feels it.

You are not over reacting at all.. It seems that people use the phrase way too soon as if they dont have anything else to contribute to the relationship. Using the term to temporarily patch the holes in the relationship. Its truly sad.

Love is indeed used to refer to love for a girl, love for one's country and love for chocolate.

I guess when you feel that it's time to tell this special girl that you're falling in love, just tell her that you aren't using the word "love" for friends.

Good luck!

Love is more about actions and less about words.
