Closed in this case simply means that the ward would be closed to new admissions. Simply shutting the ward an moving all the patiens wouldn't really helpthe situation. The hospital will have an infection control department which will deal with this sort of thing, if you call the switch board you will be put through to them and will be able to ask them their current policy. yes.i work in the NHS i've worked in wards and siderooms and been told afterwards i shouldnt have gone in as theres infections.theres no signs on the door or wards so what ever ive picked up ive transfered to another ward or dept.

If its contagious surely the hospital would shut the ward.

I would think so! Not only are new patients being put at risk, but also staff too.
