i have a problem with myself. i dont know what it is exactly. well, i get really depressed alot. and then i am happy. and it keeps fluctuating. i dont think im bi-polar. it's different than that. for example...this weekend i was at home and i was really depressed, the worse i have ever been, and i kept thinkin of suicide. well i got 3 bottles of pills and i was about to take them. i wasnt planning on killing myself, i was going to call the ambulance so they could save me. it was a way for ppl to realize there's something wrong and i need help. but i decided i didnt want to die, so i wrote a 3 page poem of how i feel. then cried for 3 hours and all of a sudden, like someone switching a light, i was happy. now im back to fluctuating. i keep thinking of hurtin myself. im really depressed, and i dont know what to do. how do i get help? who would i go to for this? like what kind of doctor? and does anyone have any idea of what's the matter with me? i really need help........

What you are describing is not uncommon in young people. People who are depressed shouldn't wait and hope it will go away on its own because depression can be effectively treated. Friends or others need to step in if someone seems severely depressed and isn't getting help. Many teens find that opening up to parents or to other adults they trust can help. Simply saying, "I've been feeling really down lately and I think I'm depressed," can be a good way to open the discussion. Ask your parent to arrange an appointment with a therapist.
People who are extremely depressed and who may be thinking about hurting themselves or about suicide need help as soon as possible. When depression is this severe, it is a very real medical emergency, and an adult must be notified. Most communities have suicide hotlines where people can get guidance and support in an emergency.
Some people think that talking about sad feelings will make them worse, but the opposite is almost always true. It is very helpful to share your worries with someone who will listen and who cares, especially a trained professional who can guide you to feeling better.
1. Reach out and talk to friends, parents or teachers.
2. If you are stressed out by exams, talk to your teacher or school counselor.
3. If you are worried about being pregnant, see your general practitioner or family-planning clinic.
4. Keep yourself occupied. Spend time with friends, especially those who are active, upbeat and make you feel good about yourself.
5. Avoid hanging out with those who use drugs or alcohol to cope with feelings.
6. Remember that you are not alone. Depression is a common problem and usually a passing state. Even though it feels like it will never lift, depression almost always does come and go on its own—and with proper intervention it can be controlled, greatly reduced or overcome.
7. You might need medication to temporarily help you while you sort out your feelings. Be sure your parents look into this before deciding, as some antidepressants used for adults can actually make teens feel worse.
Good luck and let us know in a few weeks how things are going.

I have been there before. Please don't ever take a bunch of pills for people to realize that you need help. What if something happened and the ambulance didn't get there in time to save you? You should probably sit down with the people that love you and try to explain to them how you feel and then y'all can discuss the best options you have. I personally didn't like taking anit-depressants. They never helped me. They only made it worse but you might want to try it because it might help you. But I do know that if you hold it in and don't talk to anybody that it will only get worse. That is what I did and I still have some problems but it is so much better now and I'm very happy. If you ever need someone to talk to and you don't have anybody else I'm here.

Look into seeing a psychologist or someone objective to talk to. You sound like me, I always pull myself back from the edge before I actually do anything drastic. But it could get worse, so I suggest some type of counseling or group to help you discuss your feelings. You are not alone in feeling this way. You sound as if you have some kind of depressive disorder, and there are many.

seek out a professional counselor at school or a free clinic in the town you live in. Either place should have free services for you.
Also call a help line to actually talk to a person right away.... they may qualify you for someone to come and pick you up.
you feel your not bipolar but the description you gave of what you go through is indeed a textbook example.

You are messed up and you need help. Please tell your Mom right away. She will help you get to the right people. You are bi-polar, or manic-depressive. You will continue to ride an emotional rollercoaster and you can't stop by yourself.
Don't consider suicide. I promise you that there is hope and there is a long and happy life waiting for you as soon as you get help. You just can't see it in your state of mind.

See a counsellor(your family doctor can recommend one)immediately. Honey, you should not have to feel this way.
As a Mom, I am pleading with you to talk to someone. You may not always be able to pull yourself back from suicidal thoughts, and your family would be devastated.
Please post an update.

What kind of trauma have you been through? Sounds like you keep focusing on the pain. Take your eyes off of yourself.....find something that you really enjoy and throw yourself into and you will begin to feel better.
Pills were not my problem.....I had other ideas.....ain't going to share.
