The first thing you should do, really, is reduce your budget.

If you have to, just stop paying your credit cards, and if you have a car payment, let it go. Never let them take your house--it takes years to recover the equity you've built up, and it's your family's most important asset.

At the same time you're cutting off your smaller creditors, try to find a way to increase your income.

Getting a "crisis loan" is just another way of going into debt, and it's a pretty bad idea. If you're already overwhelmed by debt, how will adding to it help? What you really need is CONTROL of your debt, and if you want it bad enough, you'll suffer the credit card companies' collection efforts.

(Here's a hint: when they call you, you're allowed to forbid them to contact you any other way than by mail. You don't have to live with the harrassment. It's a rough ride, but it's FAR better than losing your home.)
