I think 35 is the cut off. You are not "to old". I've been in the AF for 9 years. Just make sure it is what you what to do. Ask yourself what kind of career you want? It looks good to have military in your resume, so try to pick that career field. Have you thought about the National Guard or reserve? Can you spend 6 months on a ship? Don't join just for the college benefits. I know of several people who have and can't wait to get out.

The Army just raised its maximum enlistment age to 42 years old...so that would be age 62 at retirement. That seems kind of old to me...If I were a 20 year old E-5 buck sergeant, I don't necessarily want to be put in charge of a 42 year E-1 private, but whatever works, I guess.
22 is not too old at all for any branch. Go for it.

When I joined (in 1991), the upper age limit for enlistment was 27.

I think the age limit for the Army is 34 or 35, not sure about other branches.

35 is the oldest they will allow. At 22 you shouldn't have much problem.
