Because they are followers of Omar and yazid even though imam Ali (a.s) was prophet Muhammad's (s) cousin. I haven't seen a Sunni mourn on the anniversary of prophet Mohammad's death either.
10) The Prophet (s) said, “We were created from the same tree, I and Ali (a).” Al-Tirmidhi, 13/178; Ibn Al-Maghazeli, 122; Asad Al-Ghaba, 4/26; Al-Riyadh Al-Nudhra, 2/216.
11) The Prophet (s) said, “The most knowledgeable person in my nation after me is Ali (a).” Manaqib Al-Imam Ali Ibn Abi TAlib (a) of Ibn Al-Maghazeli Al-Shafi^i.

sunni muslims dont care for anything about imam Ali. Some sunni muslims hate ali even. I personally think that he was really soposed to be the first imam and not the fourth. im not saying that abu bakr did not do great thing etheir. Even some shia muslims are prejudice with abu bakr and the other imams after him, but because of this issue, all the fighting that goes on today remains the same and will continue unless shia muslims and sunni learn to work together.

It's beacuse that kind of mourning is prohibited. Prophet Mohammad p.b.u.h. gave some guideliness about mourning, which to summarise, tell not to exaggerate in grief over someone's death. Relatives and friend and everybody who loved a person has the right to mourn over a deceased but it should happen once, and as people recover from the loss of the beloved one they should move on with their lives.
If someone should be mourned repeatively like the Shia mourn Ali it should be prophet Mohammad p.b.u.h. himself, yet he hasn't ordered people to mourn his death and as Allah s.w.t. has said in Al-Qur'an: "Every soul shall experience the death".
Sunnis believe that Ali r.a. was a great man but too much affection to a creation can lead to idolatry, which is the biggest sin in Islam (it takes the one who comits it out of Islam). Practice of mourning over Ali r.a. is an inovation (bid'ah). As Ali r.a. said himself: "Two kinds of people will go to hell because of me: those who love me too much and those who hate me too much."
Despite the special position of Ali and Ahlul-Bayt, there are limits to this love as the Creator is better than the creation.

Nothing in the Shari`ah prohibits sadness for the death of dear people; it is an innate feeling. However, one should demonstrate such sadness without violating the rules of Islam. For example, slapping the face, tearing clothes, slashing the back and hitting the head with swords are all forbidden acts. If one does so, then he is harming himself, and in Islam one is not allowed to even expose himself to harm or ruin.
If people do such deeds to show sympathy for imam Al-Hussein n hasan n ali(r.a) then they should rather show it by spreading justice, as they sought to do.
Thus, these Shiite customs done to mourn imam Al-Hussein (may Allah be pleased with him) have no Islamic basis, not even in the Shiite jurisprudence itself. Such acts are no more than individual practices that developed into regular customs of millions of people with the elapse of time so that anyone who acts against them is resented. However, most contemporary Shiite scholars prohibit such acts and practices and consider them a type of backwardness.
Sunnis time n again keep relating the heroic story of hasan n husain(r.a) 2 each oder n deir children. they r a perfect example of brothers.plus y not mourn 4 all da companions of the prophet n da prophet(saw) himself sinz he had 2 go thru alot 4 his ppl. we jus repect them n rem them in our prayers.

Ali was not the chosen successor of Muhammad(PBUH*). The prophet specifically chose Abu Bakr(his close companion and father of Aisha) to rule Arabia after his death.
