Well, is there a game, movie, book, or cd you know he's been wanting?
A gift card to his favorite store.
One of the gift baskets - with snack food and pop. You could probably even get the stuff for this and make it yourself.
Coupon Book (Home Made) - You can make them yourself for just about anything. 1 Turn at Washing Dishes, 1 Bed Making, etc. I'm not sure how old both of you are so this may or not be one you'll want to consider.

If you don't have ANY idea - give him a gift card. Do you at least know his favorite store? What are his hobbies? Then give him a gift card.
