AA and these three things will do the trick....honesty, openmindedness, and willingness. With those three things he can do it...without them....in my experience it will not work. there is no drug that has been proven to work on a true alcoholic. anabuse will make him sick if he drinks...but that rarely stops the true alcoholic

Yes. There's disulfram (brand names Antabuse and Antabus). It works because when anyone is taking it regularly and consumes alcohol, it makes them feel completely miserable. Some 5-10 minutes after alcohol intake, the patient may experience the effects of a severe hangover for a period of 30 minutes up to several hours. Symptoms include flushing of the skin, accelerated heart rate, shortness of breath, nausea, and vomiting.
So if your brother is really motivated and will take the medication regularly, this is a very good choice. If he's not motivated, it's easy to just stop taking it and then have some drinks.

There is a medication called Antabuse that will, essentially, make you extremely sick if you drink while taking it, but it's somewhat controversial. Also, it's not suitable for everyone. I know an alcoholic who asked about a prescription, but was turned down because she is diabetic.

Not that I know of, but there's this herbal tea called 'Stop smoking'. It's basically a detox tea. My husband used to drink and smoke, but when he started drinking this tea, he quit both. It made his taste buds and body totally reject both. When he tried to do either, it made him feel sick. Maybe it will work for your brother. I wish you luck.

Antabuse - if he really wants to stop drinking, that may help him. It makes people really sick when they drink, but if they want to drink anyway, they either stop taking it or they learn to ignore the symptoms. Good luck!
