I have moved out to the country to, above all else, get away from the noise in suburban areas. We have another trailer about a quarter of a mile down from us-a new neighbor moved in, and I can either hear the "thump thump" of his car stereo blasting or what I believe to be drums-from every room in our home. How should I handle this? Go talk to him? Call the police to have them keep down the noise?

Lisa: I DO live in the country-and when I can hear his noise over my music, there is a PROBLEM.

Call the cops. Do not put up withh this nor put yourself in jeapardy - no going over to chat about it.

Hopefully, they will not know it was you that called.

I also live in the country, in a house, and had a dufus of a neighbour who did this, I called the police. He wouldn't speak to me for 2 years (thank god) but it worked.

Country life does not me we want to listen to self centred MORONS. There are laws.

Call whenever it happens, keep track. Find out if they are renting or what. If yes, find out the landlords telephone number and call him when this happens and let him listen to the white trash.

Good luck.

You`re right this is an issue. I would aproach the neighbor first, and then call the police if things don`t change. I had similar problems with my old neighbors, I had to sell my house and move. Well people can be immature and unreasonable. They were up all hours of the night having parties and whooping it up on the street corner. I tried to approach them, it didn`t work, I called the police, and in the end they just got volitile. It was a backward neighborhood, I didn`t belong there, so I moved. I moved into an upper middle class neighborhood where the people had a little more class and had more in common with me. Everything has been fine, ( I`ve been here for 1 year), no issues. The other place, I was there for a day and there was a fight on the street corner.

Well you should first go try talking to them. People do have the right to make noise from 8am till 10pm every night. I think that is when the noise restrictions are. Might be different in the area you live. I also try to be more understand on weekends because you know is the weekend. But I too don't want to be up at say 2 or 3am hearing all the music and noise from my neighboors. If its really late at night & there is drinking or drugs involved I would say call the police to make a noise complaint. But if its been happening lately and you could ask them 1st before sending in the police they might appreciate it. Especially if your the only neighboor around they'll know it was you who called.

I'd start by going to their home and introducing myself. During the conversation, politely bring up how you are glad to be in the country where it's quiet, but every so often, you hear loud music and ask them if they have the same problem.

Don't point fingers and see what they say - they may not even realize that it's that loud.

If that doesn't work, again stop by and explain that you've figured out where the sound is coming from. Again, it's better to play the nice neighbor than start off screaming and yelling.

If that doesn't work - then find out if there is a sound ordinance and go that route.

Let's be honest here, if you can hear him that far away, he KNOWS his music is loud! Call the cops and complain about the noise, it doesn't matter if there is a sound ordinance or not.
I live in a mobile home park, I feel for you, and have had the same problems. The park is technically "private property" but we still have had to call the cops a few times for excessive loud music.

If you are in the country and you can hear his car stereo you must file a complaint at the police station. They are disturbing the peace, it's against the law. Let the cops know what time they usuall arrive home, so the cops can catch the red handed.

Definitely talk to him first. He may not realize that his music is disturbing you. Be very nice about it, people respond better to others who are polite rather than people who are RUDE. Then he may adjust the music. If he doesn't respond then contact him again with a warning that you may call the police. Strike three and call the police.

Move, it is very unlikely that there is a noise ordinance "out in the country". It is more likely that if you pick a fight with your neighbors, they will retaliate. Sorry, life is a beach.

If there's no sound ordinance-(and usually those are for very early morning or very late night sounds)-then there's nothing you can do. Unlike suburban homes, trailers don't have very good noise insulation.

If you dont own the trailer. Move out, leave the trailer trash where they are, playing their loud music and breeding excessively. If you bought it, suck it up, and try to sell the place as soon as possible, or rent it out to someone who wont care.

If you can hear that music over your own, its being done on purpose. No one can stand music that loud for long periods.
