Try to find him a good quality dog food that he likes - there are many out there, he must like one! You're right that he's not getting enough - chicken doesn't have all the nutrients. A complete dog food will have him covered - I'd suggest Hills Science Plan Maintenance.

I work at a Dog Wash called South Bark Dog Wash in San Diego, California. We have a lot of really great foods for cats and dogs. The owners really did their research and found out the best brands to buy. I am sure you have heard about the recall. Not one of the brands we carry was on the list, but this is not surprising- the foods on the list were terrible and we only carry quality foods. I saw your question so I thought I would throw out some good brands of dog food you could look for in your area. Eating any of the following brands will give your dog all the nutrition he needs and you wont have to prepare meals for him.
The best thing you can feed your dog is RAW FOOD.
The following brands make excellent raw food that you keep in your freezer and then thaw out and serve with some hot water:
Nature's Variety
Natural Balance
Primal
The following brands (in order) are the best for dry food/kibble:
Nature's Variety
Honest Kitchen (dehydrated raw food)
Natural Balance
Wellness
Solid Gold
Canidae
Like I said, raw food is the best thing you can feed your dog but it is often more expensive than kibble. You can do all raw, half and half with kibble or just kibble and wet. Most people think that quality dog food is SOOOO much more expensive but its really not. Since there arent any fillers, etc in the food, they wont need to eat as much so you might actually save money by buying better food.
Also, here are some ingredients in low quality dog and cat food you should stay away from (and I am sure these were in most if not all the recalled food):
1. corn (most dogs and cats are ALLERGIC to it!)
2. biproducts (our dogs and cats dont need to be eating random parts of animal's bodies)
3. wheat and wheat gluten (most humans shouldnt even eat this, why should your pet?)
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!

My Yorkie really thrives on Royal Canin's Yorkie specific food. Hill's is garbage. First two ingredients 1. Ground corn 2. chicken By-product meal. I wouldn't use Hill's. Also Canned salmon, once a month with the juice it is in is wonderful for their coat. My Yorkie love's , parsnips, carrots, apples, bananas, blueberries, and cheese. But I still choose the Royal canin dry kibble for his daily meals. Hollistic, or eagle pack are also really great products. They boast the best for your dog. It contains whole fruits, and veggies, as well the first 2 ingredients listed are chiken/lamb, ground chicken/lamb meal(NO BY PRODUCTS). This tells us that this food contains more chicken and chicken meal than anything else. Awesome product! Anyways hope this helps.
Oops, I think you are mistaken about the garlic. It is okay. Wonderful for digestion, and most homeade treats are seasoned for flavor by simply adding garlic powder.

Do you feed him any store bought pet food at all? If you don't, I would suggest that you go purchase some good, top of the line dry pet food to go with your home made diet for your dog. Some of the very best are Royal Canin, Natural Balance, Canidae, Wysong, Wellness. None of these are part of the pet food recall, if you are worried about that. These foods are all made with human grade food products and do not contain any wheat, corn or soy. So your dog should not have any type of a reaction to them if he is so inclined. Prepared pet foods have added vitamins and minerals that dogs need and are very good for them. My dogs absolutely love the Canidae. They dive right into it and eat until its gone, so it must taste good to them. The Royal Canin has a dog food actually prepared just for Yorkies.

I too have a Yorkie- I feed mine IAMS puppy kibble for TOY breeds. It is in a yellow bag. I mix this with small amounts of table scraps-such as a little chicken, cooked carrots, peas, drain off the fat from burger,beef-it is also good to mix in grated cheese or rice. This encourages him to try to get to the bottom of his bowl-rooting out the goodies!
It is also important to feed small Yorkies at least three times a day, as they are prone to Hypoglycemia (low Blood Sugar) and to keep the diet a little lower in fat to prevent pancreitis.
Lastly-no onions (even cooked),garlic, grapes, rasins or chocolate!

My puppy fin has had a rough start. When I got him he went down hill quick throwing up and diarrhea and dehydration. I bought a coffee bean grinder and made a puree of chinese rice, rotisserie chicken and chicken broth. I this put it in a separate container a few tablespoons at a time and added liquid vitamins, ad wet food and some ground up like flower bil jac puppy food. I sucked it up in a syringe 3ml at a time and fed him 6 to 9 ml every two hours for two weeks. It saved his life. He also went hypoglycemic 3 times and I brought him back from that with some honey and water. 9ml of this mixture and 10 minutes and he came back to life. When this happens it is very disturbing and he appeared dead. I think any sugary substance in a pinch will help when this accurs. Some of the meds I've tried are flagyl, temaril, endosorb, clyndimycn, and albon. He eats some dry food now. Bil jac puppy, natural choice(round flat pellet) and some other one that is a real small round pellet. He sometimes will eat leftovers from the other dogs. He sometimes eats frozen bil jac with some sugary substance drizzled over it. He sleeps on a heat pad on low and has a heat lamp also. I sometimes find him in front of the wood stove or space heater when he has free time to roam around. He has sheep skin stairs leading on my bed and easily climbs them up or down. He even leaves the bed to do his business. He's not potty trained for sure but sometimes uses a wee wee pad. His stool varies from perfect to runny depending on who knows what. He craves dried pineapple, turkish apricots , banana chips , candied ginger however is upsets his stomach so I do not feed him that anymore. The sound of me opening the plastic containers of these items stimulates his appetite though. He also responds to a whistle which I think the breeder did just before feeding his parents. He likes the sound of a high pitched voice licking and pawing at your face when I say we we we or pee pee pee. He noses around everywhere looking for something and especially likes what my parrots drop. He sometimes has their downy feathers stuck to his face. He has lost 50% of his hair too. He now weighs 1.5lbs and was almost 1.7lbs when I got him. He gains an ounce here and there but usually weighs in at 1.5 to 1.6lbs. He is almost 20 weeks now. He likes to be carried around in a sling or wrapped up in the bottom of the shirt your wearing. He sometimes scratches his face at the base of the couch or on the sheeps skin stairs. His favorite toy is a hoofie. Chewing on it a lot during the day and night. I still feed him the paste mixture 4-5 times daily and yes in the middle of the night too. He drinks plenty of water and his urine is semi yellow to clear. I will not give up on Fin and still struggle to keep him alive.
